AskLeo - Upvote or Ignore It, What Defines Your Curation?
This is one tough one, I'm sure most of you will agree with me. The quality of posts floating around has been discussed ever since I can remember and it used to "be long to be good". There has always been a disgrace towards shitposting from almost all community members and I kind of get that.
Steemit was somehow born as a blogging platform, thus the mentality towards all content looking like blog posts. For a while, that was probably the case, but as more users onboarded the train it was hard to control the platform, even for a bunch of authoritarian VP holders.
By no means do I encourage excessive shitposting and trashing this platform, but I was thinking lately, what makes a post a quality one and what weighs that heavy on curating certain posts and ignoring others.
I'm mostly in the position of being a content creator rather than curator, but that doesn't mean I keep my VP power dormant, which is mostly consumed inside the Leofinance community, so what triggers me to cast an upvote?
Ideas. I love brilliant ideas, clever topics and interesting points of views on whatever, and that's what often times triggers my curation sense. I am not a fan of the ordinary. I love unordinary perspectives.
I don't like long posts, I admit it and I often times avoid reading those, that leading to ignoring them when it comes to curation as well. The only ones that have quite long posts and I still pay attention to are @taskmaster4450 and @edicted. Usually I'm not into consuming long form content.
As much as we don't like to admit that, we're all part of some circle jerking group and it's natural to be that way. We're "community animals" and we support each others, thus there are some users that I curate no matter what. Now don't imagine that I support spam, but it happens I upvote some posts from certain users without even reading them.
I don't like irrelevant content, or the boring mundane one and I will never upvote anything of this sort. I believe in consistency, but there has to be some marrow to it.
I'm the type that runs after being in prime time and I will admit that I often ignore news types of posts that come one day or two days after all the traditional media has addressed the topic. I would still not upvote a trashy post that just got there first.
Photography posts will always get my love, not all of them of course, and I believe the welcoming pic is highly relevant for a post, no matter the topic.
I support new users and reward efforts. I remember quite a few cases where the so called quality and writing of some users weren't great at all, but would still get my tiny sign of attention just for being consistent. It's clear that they won't get to trending, but I believe efforts always have to be rewarded.
What about you, what defines you as a curator and what criteria do you use when curating content?
