First time setting up Opendime

Few days ago mailman delivered me Opendime and it was a perfect timing because tomorrow i am going to my best man's son first birthday party. I wrote about what opendime is and my first experience of buying something with BTC HERE so if you are interested feel free to click(https://peakd.com/hive-174578/@bil.prag/i-got-mail). Now i want to write about how easy or hard it is to set Opendime up and transfer funds to it.

It is an usb stick, it works on Windows (it should work on Mac OS, most probably on linux too), you just plug it in and open OPENDIME directory. When you plug it for the first time it led lights on it will glow green and flash red, that means that opendime is not configurated, and private key is not generated. It looks like this:

Then you copy some files in the Opendime directory (they recommend 2 small photos) so it can generate a private key. It will finish in few seconds, and it will unmount itself. You just open the directory again and it will look like this:

So you get some new files, address.txt and private-key.txt. Also when the private key is generated the flash led is just green. If you open private-key.txt it looks like this:

To reveal the key you need to "damage" the opendime. You get a Board Pin or a small nail and you pinch through the circle next to the arrow. That will remove a transistor? on the other side, and when you plug it you will be able to see the private key (that is the theory that i still did not test :) )

If you click on the Index.htm the page in the browser will open, looking like this:

It is noob friendly. You have QR code of your address, you have your address in text form. Now all you need to do is transfer BTC to that address. 15-20 minutes later if you click Check Balance you will get this page where you can see what is the current balance (as i said, noob friendly)

Just checked, and you can send BTC multiple times, so feel free to send some, i will be grateful :D

Conclusion:

Setting up Opendime and transferring coins on it is really easy. The thing that i am worried about is that you have to trust the hardware that it will reveal the private key when you remove the transistor. It is probably not the best way to store your coins, but i think it is a great gift. It looks interesting, it will for sure intrigue the person that gets it, and in the process it will make them learn about crypto and how to use it. And that is for sure a good thing.
