Boy oh Boy things have been exciting on Hive the last few days regarding its price. My thoughts on that are mixed but I'm glad there were a lot of eyeballs on Hive throughout the crypto world.

But it seems to me that the pricing movement had very little to do with the product and more to do with speculation. So I was pretty happy to see this postThis Post from @anomadsoul about creating engagement on Hive.

It's a great read and spells out the rules for an initiative to encourage engagement and it's pretty well thought out. And, it is something I've been thinking about personally for my nearly 3 years on steemit.

You see, I come from a digital marketing background which started for me in 2006. I've been involved in beta programs for some of the biggies. Twitter & Gmail and some not so biggies that failed but were conceptually relevant. Let's a not so great version of Instagram and a better version of Facebook that got over looked.

One thing I learned is that the platform that has the best product isn't necessarily the one that reaches critical mass and goes mainstream. There are several reasons for that but one of them is inherent to what we are trying to do here.

Facebook in particular, spent millions of dollars and lots of brain power trying to figure out the answer to a very difficult problem but one crucial for growth.

That problem was how to keep people on Facebook for longer amounts of time and making sure they wouldn't have to leave the platform to get information that Facebook could ultimately provide them.

That has always stuck with me and one of the things that made absolutely no sense to me about steemit. One of the most frustrating things that whenever I tried to bring it up to the community I was largely ignored.

I never understood why people on steemit would go off platform to discord to get information about steemit. It made no sense to me then and makes no sense to me now.

When I first started Steemit I would read a lot about why would you join facebook when you are giving them all your data to build their platform and revenue while you the user, got nothing. Hence Steemit! The Answer to Everything.

In theory it was, and now Hive can be too. What a great way to monetize your life right? It really can be but I need answers. What's with discord?

I now we are at the beginning here and there is lots of development. And people like @anomadsoul are thinking about things that make. How do we increase engagement. In other words, How do we keep people hanging out on the platform? The same problem that faced Facebook.

And when you read @anomadsoul 's post about POSH you'll notice that some of the biggest and most helpful people on the platform such as @blocktrades, @theycallmedan, @threespeak and @ocdb are trying hard to solve the problem.

If I could just wish a solution into being (that's what the techies used to tell us marketers to do back in the day) I would wish for a discord type layer built on top of Hive.

Other features would be live chat capabilities hive and alerts. One of the things we often miss when thinking things through is that ultimately if hive becomes a place where we all hang out, we will want to bring our networks on board. Those are the people we leave hive to communicate with on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc.

And once we bring our network onboard and teach them to invest and earn by behaving the exact same way they do on other platform, we will want to communicate with them.

But before all my development dreams are tossed around, implemented or tossed on the cutting room floor, I'd like to see something that reddit has managed to train people to do over the last 14 years. What's that you ask?

On Reddit people have entire conversations in forum structure by commenting. It seems to me that just like what POSH is trying to promote, we should be doing anyway.

Anything we want to learn about Hive, just post a question and hopefully people will comment and start the conversation instead of going to discord.

For now, things can really be that simple and in the future we can build the things to increase engagement and direct communication to our networks on Hive.

I invite all readers to comment on the post, as engagement MAY get rewarded due to the challenge initiative.
