YouTube has suspended Ripple's CTO channel David Schwartz shortly after the blockchain company will launch a lawsuit against him for XRP video scams.

Schwartz, who uses the name "Joel Katz" online, said Wednesday morning that YouTube had suspended his channel.

Strangely, YouTube decided to suspend my channel (SJoelKatz) for identity theft. I wonder who they think was putting me through

YouTube may "cancel" channels that violate the platform's guidelines, including abusive conduct, hate speech, harassment, and phishing. Channel owners are prohibited from creating new channels, but can file an appeal request if they believe their channel was mistakenly suspended or canceled.

The events of this Wednesday occur a week after Ripple started a lawsuit against YouTube, accusing the company of not having been able to avoid the XRP scams on its platform. The lawsuit claims that YouTube's unwillingness to suspend scam channels has led users to be scammed with hundreds of thousands of dollars, as well as damaged Ripple's reputation.

The lawsuit reads:

Ripple has repeatedly demanded that YouTube take steps to stop the scam and prevent further harm. However, YouTube refuses, even when the same scheme is repeated over and over again on its platform. YouTube's response has been woefully inadequate and incomplete. As a result, Ripple and Mr. Garlinghouse continue to suffer substantial reputational damage. Ripple.

Schwartz's channel was active for years, making the timing of the suspension interesting, given that it is very close to the start of court proceedings. Of course, it may also be because YouTube's moderation algorithms have been corrupted again.
