At a certain age when we have a steady means of income and it looks as If life is going perfectly well for us is the time when we need to become vigilant of the ways we spend our money. I was talking to an older man in my neighbourhood who seem not to really have life going well for him at his old age and sometimes I stop by to give him some provisions and food item because I fear he might just be too hungry and I don’t see anyone around him either.

There was a day he called me and he told me about his childhood, he told me how he was once rich, I really did not think that a man who was this hungry and unkempt would have at a point in his life had money to his name, he decided to lecture me through his experience on the things he regrets and I should avoid while I still earn money at a young age.

Avoid cars you cannot afford.

According to this old man, cars are luxurious items that young people want to buy very fast to show off to friends but this was a costly mistake he had made and he told me sincerely that, when it comes to a point when you really think you should get a car get one that is within your standard . If you have to get loans to buy a car that only means you cannot afford that car and you should not be getting it in the first place, even if the cars your friends are driving are better than yours it is good to remain sincere to your pocket.

Avoid homes you cannot conveniently pay for.

This old man lived in a wrecked hut and it amazed me when he said he once had a very luxurious house in the more civilized part of town that banks seized since he could not pay off his debt, the temptation to live in a very big house made up of glasses where everyone admired is the temptation attached to a young age and if that home cannot be paid for from some cash you have piled up somewhere then you really do not need it at the moment.

Avoid meet-ups and parties you cannot afford.

A young age is the time when party is our head light, we do not want to miss out on any fun of life but this young man told me stories of how we wish he had done things differently. He really wished he had saved up very well for his retirement rather than wasting all the precious time and money he had going for every party and trying to please every good looking girl.
