Climate Change and Covid-19
Corona virus has changed many things. Companies, industries, consumers, politics, policy and even our life have been impacted from unexpected corona crisis.
And this corona virus has given us all big question about climate change while we have had unexpected phenomenon of more clear air and wild animals who appear in urban area while so many regions has stressed out from massive economic recession that caused by corona virus.
Climate Change with the view from Corona-19 Pandemic
We have 2 global crisis that we are dealing with it simutaneously. Corona virus and still we have climate change.
If someone had a few months ago told me we would have the ability and the will to shut down entire economy on the basis of invisible virus, I would be skeptical and I wouldn’t believe in that. And now yet we’ve done it in corona virus pandemic meanwhile when we comes to other global crisis, clmate change.
For climate change, we not only find it difficult to distrupt any momentum but also we actually seem to be moving in the opposite direction. So even over the past couple of weeks, the corona ministration has continued to rollback environmental protections In fact over the past 4 years, Trump US administration has revealed we can reverse 100 environmental rules. So we could see the contrast here to be so revealing and find the irony to be everywhere. For example, the corona virus has totally heightened our appreciation for outdoors for being able to be outside, feel the sunshine, smell the air and it’s given us a glimpse of what a city could look like less smog, less polution. Those cities look like wild anmimals.
And scientists are already predicting the largest annual drop in carbon emisisions in modern history. But they are also prediction that 2020 will still be hottest year on record also so we could find the contrast in how think about these 2 things to be really revealing.
You could imagine this play how in 2 different ways
You could image that actually the corona virus amplifies our reference to fight on climate change. You could equally imagine the other way which is economic pressure that’s gonna comes from the beneath of economic recovery. It’s gonna make people wanna put aside environmental regulations, because so called job loss.

And both sides are getting ready to make the argument even more strongly than before, because of the corona virus. Some people use it as two kind of lesson of environmental standard because they feel the job losses are too great, and the others will use it as a view to be able to say this is exactly what we have to say to this planet.
The severe consequences is so far in the future
Someone have the sense that the climate change is so hard because we used to predict the severe consequences is so far in the future.
So the moment of we have the fire in California or Australia, our intuition was this is gonna change everything. Because all of a sudden now we see this is not something that will happen sometime in the future, this is something that happen right here right now we need to act right here right now. And then for some reason it didn’t really happen in that way even though now the manifestation is so clear.
