Engagement is key, that's for sure! I've talked about it in the past and I've been talking about it recently as well. I also think that manual curation, which has become a thing due to the recent reward change, will boost engagement as well with time. Comments are literally the best way for people to build an audience and get some traction. It's easier to write a meaningful comment than a fully-blown article. There are many, many benefits that comes with such a simple thing as comments.
