Hi Hive,

I Am HiveChat, a weekly Tweetchat that highlights #hive on Twitter through different questions by different weekly Hosts. In this post I would like to introduce myself to everyone on Hive.

What is a #hivechat?

Basically, the question has been answered in the introduction, but let's look at the specifics word-for-word: HiveChat = A Weekly Tweetchat focusing on #hive Tweetchat = A public chat on Twitter, usually for an hour, which is open for everyone to join by simple adding the hashtag (in this case #hivechat) Weekly Host = The host of the week, who asks the questions which can be answered by all participants Participants = Hive owners and other people on Twitter whom are interested in learning more about Hive by answering questions and interacting with others

What is the goal of #hivechat?

The goal of #hivechat is fourfold:

  1. To bring more awareness to Hive on Twitter, the biggest mainstream platform for the promotion of anything blockchain related (in a condensed period of time with the aim of making #hive go viral)
  2. To discuss topics and burning questions relating the Hive ecosystem to create better understanding of the different possibilities the platform has to offer
  3. To improve engagement between different Hive owners who meet on Twitter and can connect on Hive afterwards as well
  4. To onboard new members to Hive

Why is there a separate #hivechat account?

All announcements so far have been done by the weekly hosts, or by @hivepeople and @jeanlucsr who initiated this project 4 months ago. So far, the #hivechat has taken place every week during this time. However, it is time to switch it up. Using a @hivechat account allows us to easily reshare/retweet Hive owners their best work and allows delegation from anyone who wants to support this project, without having to change the delegation every week.

Making @hivechat an official project allows promotion of Hive as a platform, without it being directly tied to a personal or single entity. If succesful, it will also make it easier to apply for additional funding if needed.

It will also allow provide a better opportunity to rewards those who promote #hivechat on both Hive and Twitter.

How does #hivechat work?

Each #hivechat consists of 5 different questions. During the weekly chat, the host will ask these questions with an interval of around 10 minutes, allowing time for Hive owners and others whom are interested to answer the question and interact with other participants. Participants in their turn need to use the hashtag #hivechat to have their responses to get noticed in the discussion.

Is the #hivechat always on Tuesday, 12:00 GMT?

Unless otherwise is noted (by the host of the week), the #hivechat start at 12.00h (Noon) GMT/UTC and goes on until 13.00h. This time is picked as it is the most optimal time to get participation from Hive owners from all over the work, noting that it will be a little too late for people in New Zeeland and a little to early for those on the West coast of the United States of America.

Changing the time to any other time however, will result in a larger group missing out on the chat. That being said, the Host of the week decides the time as his/her presence is most important to the succes of that weeks #hivechat.

Who decides the questions?

The questions are decided by the Host of the week. The Host has the right to crowdsource the questions, or come up with his/her own questions based on a theme or topic that has their interest.

How can I become a Host?

You can become a host by making you interest known, this can be done by leaving a comment on a @hivechat post, or more discretely by sending @jeanlucsr a DM (Direct Message) on Twitter. Please be mindful that the logistics tend to rotate after 3 months, so if you read this posts a couple of months after is has been posted, you might be redirected to someone else.

To be a host, it is important to be in good standing with the community. While this could be interpreted very loosely, most importantly, you should be able to take full responsibility for the #hivechat in the week you are hosting.

How do I participate?

Join us for the Next #hivechat, November 17th, 2020 @ 12.00 GMT
