Of course it is not the only plot to talk about cryptocurrencies, there are countless topics and every day we meet new ones about the world of cryptocurrencies, for something it is a disruptive technology that is making a lot of noise everywhere, both in favor as against.

But in recent days, the small Central American country takes all the palms when it comes to leading the news, mainly due to its recent approval by parliament to recognize bitcoin as legal tender.

As I have said in previous publications, this country has enormous problems starting with its president, a controversial figure whom many point to as a tyrant or dictator despite having been democratically elected.

Among the recitals of the resolution, it is specifically mentioned that all businesses are obliged to accept bitcoin as a means of payment for goods and services, something difficult to implement quickly and in an orderly manner, taking into account that many of these businesses do not even have the elements necessary technicians to accept, for example, card payments. In the same bill it is established that in case the business does not have the necessary tools to comply with this, the state must provide the alternatives so that the transaction can be carried out.

Another point to consider is the chosen cryptocurrency, bitcoin was not designed to support a large number of concurrent transactions per second, which would make it difficult to implement in retail stores. To partially mitigate this inconvenience, the Lightning network would be used, which allows transactions outside the blockchain and thus speeds up response times and reduces the price of commissions, however, the biggest criticism of this layer is the risk of fraud and malicious attacks, something that should not be ignored.

The parliamentary session was broadcast on YouTube and there was also an interview with President Bukele from Twitter Space, one of the favorite networks from where he communicates all his government acts. Many opponents criticized the show, claiming that El Salvador has serious problems that should be addressed before this one. Like many other Latin American leaders, Bukele prefers to escape forward.

The truth is that the law was approved and many defenders of cryptocurrencies are exulting, let's hope that all the problems can be solved and this trial is successful.

Other countries will surely be watching closely the evolution of the experiment.

Por supuesto no es la única trama para hablar sobre criptomonedas, hay infinidad de temas y en cada jornada nos encontramos con otros nuevos sobre el mundo de las criptomonedas, por algo es una tecnología disruptiva que está haciendo mucho ruido en todas partes, tanto a favor como en contra.

Pero en los últimos días el pequeño país centroamericano se lleva todas las palmas a la hora de liderar las noticias, fundamentalmente por su reciente aprobación por parte del parlamento para reconocer al bitcoin como moneda de curso legal.

Como ya he dicho en otras publicaciones anteriores este país tiene enormes problemas comenzando por su presidente, una figura controversial al que muchos señalan como tirano o dictador pese a haber sido elegido de forma democrática.

Entre los considerandos de la resolución se menciona taxativamente que todos los comercios están obligados a aceptar al bitcoin como medio de pago por bienes y servicios, algo difícil de implementar de manera rápida y ordenada teniendo en cuenta que muchos de esos comercios ni siquiera tienen los elementos técnicos necesarios como para aceptar, por ejemplo, pagos con tarjetas. En el mismo proyecto de ley se establece que en caso de que el comercio no cuente con las herramientas necesarias para cumplir con eso, el estado deberá proveer las alternativas para que la transacción se pueda efectuar.

Otro punto a considerar es la criptomoneda elegida, el bitcoin no fue diseñado para soportar una gran cantidad de transacciones concurrentes por segundo lo que dificultaría su implementación en comercios de atención al público. Para morigerar en parte este inconveniente se utilizaría la red Lightning, que permite realizar transacciones por afuera de la cadena de bloques y de esa manera acelera los tiempos de respuesta y reducir el precio de las comisiones, sin embargo, la mayor crítica a esta capa es el riesgo de fraudes y ataques maliciosos, algo que no se debe soslayar.

La sesión parlamentaria fue trasmitida por YouTube y también hubo una entrevista al presidente Bukele desde Twitter Space, una de las redes favoritas desde donde comunica todos sus actos de gobierno. Muchos opositores criticaron el show alegando que El Salvador tiene graves problemas que deberían ser tratados antes que este. Como muchos otros líderes de Latinoamérica, Bukele prefiere escapar hacia adelante.

Lo cierto es que la ley se aprobó y muchos defensores de las criptomonedas están exultantes, esperemos que todos los inconvenientes se puedan solucionar y este ensayo sea exitoso.

Otros países seguramente estarán observando atentamente la evolución del experimento.
