The Average (Nigerian) Person's Theory Of Need
Being a Nigerian is difficult and a lot of this stems from the issue of insecurity, inflation, corrupt government, unemployment, increased crime rate, the constant blaming of the naira's failings on crypto and the lack of ingenuity when it comes to entrepreneurship and other aspects.
@starstrings01 in one of his posts sometimes ago talked about how an average Nigeria earns about $20 in active income on a monthly basis with no other means to earn passively or even the time and effort to have another job or another means of income. To a foreigner or an outsider, they wouldn't understand how bad it is.
Usually the economy is Nigeria has been bad for almost forever, but it takes an almost unbearable economy for people who have developed thick skin, since they do not have options and this is why in recent times a lot of Nigeria are selling off everything they own to move to another country.
The Need To Earn
In Nigeria, the need to earn tops every type of need, and this is because financial buoyancy is how you tend to thrive. This is to say that without money one cannot enact their day-to-day responsibilities, from feeding to clothing and shelter. As much as this feels common and easy, so many people find it difficult to eat right or cloth and live right.
In other to do this, you should probably have an income of $400 monthly in a suburban area. But how many people are exposed to jobs of $200 not to talk of $400?. Let's even forget about jobs, how about investment opportunities? A person who is intending to start up a business will face the issue of cost, rent and even problems from louts whose means of income is extorting people who are trying to own a business of their own. Let's even take a look at how the country limits people individually.
The country itself makes huge money from sectors like education and transport, but these monies are not recycled into creating further opportunities. A lot of doctors in Nigeria are moving to foreign hospitals, and it isn't just because of the poor pay in public hospitals, there are no opportunities in the public sectors, no good working conditions, and it's impossible to improve due to lack of exposure to new technologies.
The Need For Alternative
Most people at one point in time have sought for an alternative, simply because their initial plans haven't turned out well. Crypto is an alternative that people have been turning to, to either to raise capital for the real-time businesses, having a means of passive income, escape from the lack of profitability from commercial banks, have accessibility to their funds at any point in time, while having it grow in value.
Trying to transact without third-party involvement and all the red tapism that comes with banks in general. The alternative to having a degree and exchanging it for a job or being self-employed*, as well as being dependent on an inheritance, a house, bringing in some residual income.
The need for alternatives is often there and this is one huge need every Nigerian which is possible to activate at every point in time, but this isn't there. The government is making sure to kill Crypto transaction within the commercial banks.
The Biological Need For Security
This is probably one aspect, one of the biggest need of the average hustling Nigerian. Without feeling secure, a lot is at stake. In the North for example, banditry and kidnapping is a rampant phenomenon, in the West and South, police brutality and the frown against crypto is making zealous law enforcement agencies arrest and dehumanized people for looking good.
This stems from the fact that the country is difficult. For a person to manage to appear good without being employed raises a red flag to law enforcement. They're seeing this as an avenue to actually raise money for themselves seeing the fact that they're underpaid, unkempt and easily manipulated by wealthy crooks in the society to cause mayhem.
Every Nigerian hardly feels safe, either in their business or their lives. The lawless nature of the country makes the lives of every citizen expendable to these law enforcement agencies, how then can people seek alternative when they're unemployed?
In Conclusion...
Being a Nigerian is difficult, the economic and financial aspects is the root of obvious problems like police brutality, bribery, nepotism, red tapism, bureaucracy and some other abnormal societal dysfunction. Alternatives are limited due to the fact that the doors of innovations are being shut on a daily.
Nigeria could easily become the richest country in the world, why? It's citizens and resources. As for its citizens, they're one of the most creative and innovative people in the world with no platforms to bring their ingenuity to the limelight. As for the resources. The numbers on the income generated by the resources in the country is faked, the way the money is channeled wrongly makes foreign bodies depict the Nigerian people as the most desperate and poorest in the world.
The wealth in Nigeria is enormous, the leadership is what obviously needs to change. Howbeit to meet these particular needs above is what every Nigerian strives for on a daily basis.
