just a short rant on learning new skills

We are all different types of thinkers and doers. Some will choose to focus on certain portions of the board where they can master a particular set of skills.

Others will attempt to move all the pieces. Others still will look for the macro view and find ways to bring intricate parts together to form a greater whole.

The way I choose to spend my time caters to the ladder of the three. I choose to learn skills and vocabulary that aid in making myself better at identifying the right puzzle pieces to fit together for the larger whole.

As I said, we’re all different and there is no right or wrong answer to this question.

When you look at how you spend your time, try to figure out if you’re spending your time on the path that you believe is best for you. If you think you’re a deep focus kind of person who needs to master a specific type of puzzle piece, then build that skill.

If you’re the kind of person who works better with multiple aptitude’s at the same time, then spend your time building your ability to pull multiple arenas together.

Whether it’s in business, life, health, relationships or anything else that humans do: everyone has experienced a time of overwhelming input.

We’ve all experienced a job or a relationship or a problem to solve that makes us feel this sense of too much information flowing in.

I’ve been spending some time recently on a revised investment strategy. The strategy is doing very well, but as I continue to explore the intricate little pieces that fit together to make the whole, I realize just how much there is to learn.

There are so many concepts. So many tools. So many different approaches... but I have only so much time.

It’s crazy to think how much there is in the world for all of us to learn. When you zoom out on a particular skill or area of interest, just take a minute to think of everything that is possible. Just think of all the input that you could bring in and try to master.

It’s an exercise that may leave you feeling overwhelmed. Or it may amp you up to get after it and start tackling the pieces.. 1 by 1... for me, I get a sense of both.

Overwhelm followed by a burning desire to master the board.. 1 piece at a time.
