Samin Surasentiko is the founder of the movement. His followers called him Samin. Saminism was taught by Samin Surosentiko in 20th century in the era of Dutch kolonialization in Indonesia. Until now saminism become an etnic group that spreads in Blora and some towns in Central Java and East Java Indonesia.

What the samin movement?

Saminism was a civil disobedience movement. It is a movement of native oeople against imperalism without bloody acts. Samin people rejected to pay taxes, disobeyed all rules. They lived in silence. They made community. They did not trade. They lived from farming.

Originally, samin people were moslems but they did not practice Islamic teaching entirely. They accept all religions and belief.

Because Surontiko Samin was illiterate, and also his followers and other Saminist leaders, there is no written first-hand accounts of the Saminist movement. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saminism_Movement

Saminism has moral value of their teachings.

  • they believe in balance, harmony, and equal justice
  • do not attend school.
  • do not participate in polygamy
  • reject capitalism
  • trading is banned because it is viewed as dishonest
  • patient and humility qualities
  • honest and respectful
  • They do not accept donations in the form of money
  • Fighting is not of their nature

Saminism is peafull movement against tyrany. The movement was so effective so that The Dutch colonial caught Ssmin Surosentiko and took him away from Java Island.

In current era, neo colonialism seems to wake up again. In my country, in the name of investors removed local communities and destroy natures for their greediness. Neo Saminism movement may be effective to fight the neo colonoialism.
