The Polynetwork Exploiter has recently attracted the attention of the crypto communities after successfully exploiting the Polynetwork and moving funds worth about $611m.

He has also kept up with the appearance by sending numerous messages over the Ethereum network explaining his motives and actually doing an AMA which quite frankly Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s just outrightly ridiculous or legendary. Last weā€™ve heard about him/her/them is that most of the stolen funds have been returned. What hacker does that?

Certainly not the conventional black hat hacker! This one claims heā€™s not doing it for the money but for fun, he claims he was challenged and wanted to teach the Polynetwork team a lesson amongst other claims, he also outrightly stated that hacking cross chain protocol was ā€œhotā€ hence the motivation to take it up.

What sort of hacker explains himself after conducting one of the greatest hacks in DeFi history as far as cryptocurrencies are concerned? What are the real motives behind his action?

This hacker also proved to have some human feelings in contrast to other Black hat hackers who steal peopleā€™s funds with no remorse! He claims that he understood that the money belonged to a community of people whoā€™ll be hurt by the loss of funds! Again what black hat hacker considers the feeling of the community he stole from?! He also tipped the person who gave him a hint that the usdt in his address had been frozen up to $40k out of the stolen funds, are you kidding me now!

I canā€™t help but have a feeling that this hacker is somewhat connected to the hacker who attacked Thorchain twice in a roll, the Thorchain exploiter, who also claimed to have been able to take more than was stolen but decided not to...out of goodwill and also communicated his intentions through voice memos! You have to wonder if this fellow is on crack or something.

The Grey Hat Hacker

Certainly not a white hat hacker. Latest concerning this is that he was offered $500k as bounty reward from the Polynetwork team and has declined it but still gave the team instructions on how to make the protocol better. This hacker has proven himself to not be a White hat or Black hat but a Grey hat hacker who does these type of things only for fun and nothing else.

Per adventure the hack wasnā€™t such a comical one and was indeed handled by a Black hat hacker, the entire cryptosphere would have been singing a different song by now. But however, thanks to this dude, Polynetwork lives to see another day. Weā€™ll see what happens next in the coming days.

Thanks for reading!
