'YOU CAN LEAVE ANY JOB THAT PAYS YOU LESS THAN $100 A MONTH FOR HIVE'
If you have a degree and a good command of the English language and you earn less than $100 doing a 9-5 job in Nigeria (or any part of the world) that sucks out all the energy and colour in your life, you can comfortably quit your job for hive.
I stumbled upon this post by @young-boss-karin which I found quite interesting. It talks about quitting an underpaying job for hive. She made a lot of interesting points and I would like to buttress a few.
It is quite sad that many people in this part of the world romanticize their jobs, even in situations that are totally unfavourable. There is no justification for working a job that pays you less than $100 for working 160 hours a month. Even in a third-world country like mine, that is equivalent to financial suicide.
YOU DO NOT VALUE YOUR TIME
Honestly, I do not blame you because we have all been in this boat before, especially in a country like ours where the average person is ready to do just about anything to survive. Most times 'anything' entails the wrong things.
Your time is your most valuable currency and it can easily be exchanged for any other currencies or anything that adds utility to your life. How you use it determines the outcome of your life.
If you are stuck in a job that doesn't pay you well or provide any opportunity for growth then you are completely wasting your time--life and in all honesty, there is no dignity in that. You are better off unemployed.
Early this year I asked my girlfriend to quit her day job for hive. I did not see any reason why she was working 160 hours a month for just $60 as a professional underwriter. It made no sense to me because at the end of each month she went home with nothing. All she earned was spent on her commute to work. So she was basically working for free.
She hesitated at first but finally, she agreed to quit and it was one of the best decisions she made. She joined the hive blockchain and grew exponentially. Also, she got called back by her previous employers and her salary was significantly increased. The high point for her was knowing that her time had value and that changed her orientation.
A BRAINWASHED WHITE-COLLAR SLAVE
Contrary to popular opinion, you don't need a white-collar job to earn money. Your only job on this planet is to add value to other people's lives in exchange for whatever currency you want.
When you think in terms of value, your mental scope begins to expand and you become susceptible to the opportunities around you, and then you begin to work on improving your capacity.
Many people never get to see what they can become because they are limited by the script society has given them. In most cases, this entails: getting a degree, getting a job, working till you are old and then retiring. Rarely do people think in terms of value. They assume that their Degree is a meal ticket.
Fortunately for me, I discovered hive while in college so I knew I had a shot at financial freedom if I played my cards right. Firstly, I live in a third-world country where the cost and standard of living aren't high as compared to other first-world countries.
Secondly, I saw this as a unique opportunity to develop aspects of creativity and interest. To put things into context, in the 5 years I will achieve all my financial goals, get my MBA, become a proficient web developer and so much more. This would not be possible if I was stuck in an underpaying job.
In conclusion, it is not reckless leaving a job that cannot take care of your needs for the prospect of something better, which in this case is hive. I know a lot of people who are full-time creators on the hive and they are comfortable enough to pursue other endeavours, extending their scope and generating long-term wealth.
