Today I will write about one of the most interesting topics - Various versions of the web! We will learn what are web 1.0, web2.0, and web 3.0 and their differences. These all are different stages of the internet. I will focus more on web 3.0 as it's intelligent and semantic web technology that is related to the blockchain. So stay with me to the last of this article.

What is Web 1.0?

When the first internet came to the world or you can say discovered for the first time, that time the version of the web was 1.0. It's the first step of the internet. The websites on the web 1.0 or the first stage of Web were read-only!

At the beginning of the Web, people could read and learn from various websites. But they were unable to do any type of interplay there. Suppose, when you buy anything from eBay, you can chat with the seller or contact with him. So you are interacting in the eBay. But in Web 1.0 there was just information about the products.

If you found any misinformation or less information in the product details, you weren't able to contact the product owner or edit anything. Only the website owner or admin had the right to edit anything. Now look at Wikipedia, everyone can interact and edit the information there.

Web 1.0 is a retronym pointing to the first step of the World Wide Web's development, from approximately 1991 to 2004. The fact is at that time, people even didn't imagine buying anything from the internet. They were happy with the read-only and information they got from static websites.

Websites under Web 1.0 was created with little CSS, simple layout, non-responsive, and designed for desktop only. At that time it wasn't even possible to think about mobile-friendly sites. Look [at this website] to get the idea about Web 1.0, it's straight and simple. Just imagine the page with no mobile number, email, or social media links.

What is Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 was invented to eliminate the limitations of Web 1.0. Here users got the websites with interaction capabilities. Let go back to our eBay example. In Web 2.0 anyone can chat and contact with the seller on eBay and they can also provide product reviews on the website.

It created interactions between people so Web 2.0 is also called Social Web. And that's why social media like Facebook, Twitter was created on Web 2.0. What do you do on Facebook? You can share your thoughts, your friend can share their views, you can support other views by providing like and comment, and so on. So interactions are going on here. This is the uniqueness of Web 2.0.

This is not a read-only web, like Web 1.0, you can write here as well. Like blogging, content creation, product reviewing, etc. And we got video viewing and sharing platforms like youtube on Web 2.0. And Web 2.0 provided developers a lot of tools to develop a website according to people's requirements.

What is Web 3.0?

Web 3.0 is the brand new version of Web, based on artificial intelligence that removes all limitations of Web 1.0 and Web 2.0. You can read here, write here and execute here. You will be able to see lots of innovative features here. For example, Google Map.

Suppose you want to go to San Fransisco from Colorado. If you search for on Google Map it will show lots of available routes and options. That means you may take either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd route. Google Map also indicates the fastest and shortest route from all these three. So how does Google Map show this to users? Thorugh Artificial Intelligence, through Web 3.0.

Now because of web 3.0, you can see the Globe and any country, any street on the internet. This is also the birthplace of 3D Vega.

People will make big claims about the potential of the blockchain to revolutionalize the foundation of social and economic organizations. But the blockchain can only have such potential as part of a broader ecosystem of technologies that are emerging as the next generation of the internet. Which may be called web 3.0 or the decentralized web.

Why We Need Web 3.0?

In web 2.0 there's no room for new ventures to grow up and compete with the giant companies. Because money, power, compute, talent talks in Web 2.0. So how are we able to start a new company today.

The answer is Web 3.0, decentralized applications.

Companies today are now has caused the economy to shrink, because winners take all here. This is causing major income inequality throughout the world. The basic example of this is the Film Industry. Previously creators were able to maintain control of their movies and make money. Now the money is being centralized and concentrated by a few companies. This is hurting the makers and content owners while the internet did free access to movies, musics. The creators can now no longer depend on authority money as a source of sustainable income.

This is just one main problem that is happened with centralization. And secondly, people have no longer control their own data. Their controls are now being diverted to the platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google Drive, etc. On Google Drive, you probably stored a lot of important data. Right?
What will happen if Google Drive just vanishes tomorrow? Don't say it's impossible. Even a few months ago we didn't assume that the world will kneel down to a virus, like Covid-19.

If something wrong posted about you on the internet (Web 2.0), you have no clue how to remove that from the internet. So Data Ownership becomes a major issue in Web 2.0.

Web 3.0 is here to rebuilding the internet with liberty. This means freedom of censorship-resistant, anyone can participate and generate a sustainable income. This means more competition. Here barrier is low and easy to enter into the marketplace. Anyone can start a company, sustain it, and make money with Web 3.0. You don't need to be a major company based on Silicon Valley.

Hope you got the basic idea of Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0. In the next article of this series, I will write more about Web 3.0 Blockchain and it's uses. I am writing Basic guides on Blockchain and SEO #hiveseo at the same time in Hive Blog. So let me know if you want to learn about any specific terms. I will be happy to write for you.
