Just hours ago I decided it was time to claim my Doctor Blights in which were airdropped to me for participating in the Splinterlands Presale of Chaos Legion Packs. Details on the requirements for receiving the Doctor Blight airdrop can be read below.

What is Splinterlands?

I went back and forth on how much USD I wanted to invest in Chaos Legion. First I was going to drop about $10,000 USD on packs but news released that pack price increased to $4.00 USD from $2.00 USD (Still a great deal). I adjusted my purchase plans to later find out we would also need Vouchers when making our purchase. My presale plans again were put to the scrap pile.

Luckily Splinterlands airdropped the Vouchers to its players based on the amount of SPS each individual player had staked. Meaning Players got the Vouchers for free. Purchasing Vouchers directly from Splinterlands was not possible. The Voucher market was 100% a players market. Instead of using my Vouchers to purchase packs I thought it best to sell the bulk of them.

Selling Vouchers turned out to be a move of unpredicted genius. At the time of selling them HIVE was worth around $0.80 USD. Just days ago HIVE Peaked at $3.50+ USD. Today the price of one HIVE is $1.60. Considering Vouchers were routinely selling for $20+ those who managed to sell at around the $0.80 cent mark managed to get an amount of HIVE that is equal to around $40 USD for each voucher (if we use todays HIVE price). So how many packs did I end up with?

154 packs is the answer to that question. Splinterlands gave bonus packs on purchases that were over 100 Packs. The amount of Chaos Legion Booster packs in which I actually purchased was 138. The remaining 14 were given to me as a bonus. Considering packs cost $4.00 USD each and putting a value on Vouchers of $20.00 USD each that would of been an investment total of $3,192 USD. Lets see how that investment panned out.

Doctor Blight Airdrop Claim

With holding a total of 154 Chaos Legion Packs I was gauranteed three Doctor Blights. Each of those Doctor Blights had a 2% chance of turning gold. I laugh at those odds and smack them with my pimp hand. I managed to get airdropped FOUR Doctor Blights and one of them ended up being GOLD FOIL.

Now lets see if any ROI (return on investment) was made. Currently the lowest price Doctor Blight is listed at $1,699 plus I still have the 154 unopened Booster Packs (154 x 4.00 = $616). Regular foil Doctor Blights are listed in the $140 USD range (140 x 3 = 420). That is a total of $2,735 USD in returned value. On opening day it looks like my ROI is a negative $457 USD. This is a number I can live with plus Luckily I didn't purchase my Vouchers as I had enough SPS staked to be dropped them for free.

Lets Celebrate: Chaos Pack Opening

My pack opening skills need some work. I ended up with some cool new monsters to add to my collection but it was a basic pack opening (Four Commons and One Rare). Looks like the Splinterland Airdrop Gods didn't like the pimp slap I gave them earlier and they retaliated with a slap of their own. The Rare that I flipped (XENITH ARCHER) looks like its going to be a card I will eventually bulk purchase. With a mana cost of just two while sporting an attack of one with a health of two this card is a keeper. I also like the design and stats of all the others flipped in this opening.

Doctor Blight Lore

To say the faculty at Pelcroft were uncooperative when first presented with Alastair's “evidence” would be an understatement. Shunned for his obsession with obscure folklore and laughed at for his insistence on a forgotten “hidden” continent, staff and friends alike mumbled pejoratives just out of earshot suggesting an unbalanced mind, drawing comparisons to the infirmed at Silverwood Asylum.

But the Yerivin Manuscript could not be ignored. Though indecipherable, the illuminated volume hinted at lands and flora somehow lost, suggesting a rich landscape ever so near but inaccessible to the uninitiated. As his critics grew more vocal he grew ever more determined, reclusive and choleric, buying the artifacts he could and stealing what he could not to fuel his obsessive research; obscure tablets in jade, strange figures carved in hardwoods unknown, and fragments of rotting velum in writing nearly identical the Yerivin volume. But still they would not believe.

Everything changed when the first sightings were made. The seas themselves had suddenly shifted, alien currents with strange fish had interrupted trade routes and samples described in university articles gave at last incontrovertible evidence for Alastair's claims. Though gifted now with funding, celebrity and a clockwork steamer to make the voyage, his sleep became restless, haunted by whispers of fear and greed.

On the sea he grew thin, unable to eat, feeding instead on his growing delusions, disappearing from the shore camp on arrival, returning late that first night wild-eyed, raving of ruins in the jungle and of visions of a flaming caldera where all questions would be answered. The crew muttered. The ship's captain hid the guns and rum.

The next morning he was gone. It was a fortnight before reports reached the shore of great swaths of jungle blackened and dead with tales of a crow beaked shadow bringing death in its wake. “From the starless void beneath and from before creation lives the dweller in the void. By Silus' will was it given form and through the tearing of the veil were the hands of chaos laid upon the world. Though the Crypteia are the heralds of Chaos, only I am the right hand of doom. By the well of power am I given strength. Through me the shadow of the void is cast and by the will of Uul the word of Silus is given voice. Hear me and tremble. Approach and embrace oblivion.”
