Still not Ready to Give up Marking as an Income Stream....

One of my income streams comes from doing some online marking.

I work (in a self-employed capacity) for a small company in the UK which runs teacher training courses - I mark the LEVEL 5 DET assignments, somehow my teaching qualification and Masters Degree qualify me for this job.

Compared to the passive income I earn from my blog and various other sources the income I receive from this is the lowest per hour, although it's still not bad - something like $20 an all in, once I've done the marking and there's hardly any admin required (someone else does that, thankfully).

However, I do find the work a little tedious, and it's definitely the least enjoyable thing I do every couple of days - I do tend to check in every day, but sometimes there are just no new submissions of work to be marked, so it works out that I mark about 3 scripts every other day.

They don't take me too long to mark, I'll rarely do over an hour in a single session, but my brain-thing somehow manages to go into disproportionality mode when it comes to marking - I'm quite good at putting off doing it rather than just getting on with it and having the most unpleasant task of the day hang over me longer than necessary.

(But then again I don't want to waste my freshest, best hours in the morning marking, it does take some concentration!).

The income I get is only around £120 a month, in fact it's so low I only bother claiming once every 2-3 months.

I have toyed with the idea of just quitting, but I'm reluctant as once I've quit, I've quit, I'm probably not going to get this job back again and it is, in the grand scheme of things. still a nice little earner, even if I do have to actually 'work' for the damned money.

And then there's the fact that my blog income could go south, crypto could (and probably will) go south, and so it's nice to have this reliable income ticking away in the background.

And then there's the link to the company being maintained - I could probably get some work teaching online courses if I wanted to, so that's some nice further income-security.

It's also kind of nice to have some kind of link back to the real world of work too, and I can kind of see myself claiming my pension in twenty years time, still marking as a nice little side earner, it's a thing with teachers, you know!

So compared to other income sources I've got which are much more passive, this marking does feel like a lot of work, but I've got to keep things in perspective, it's still a pretty good deal and it's nice to have a real world hedge too.
