Always Double Check Your Wallet Addresses

It's a sad lesson to learn when you lose money. And in crypto, there's no going back. Once it's done, the action is final. You can't change the past and control + Z stuff to go back.

I've messed up entering wallet addresses in the past. But it's been quite some time since I last did it, and I just did it again recently when withdrawing from Crypto.com. I had some USDC in there and I wanted to move it to coinbase. Coinbase has a nifty little QR code scanner. And I used it. BUT GUESS WHAT, THE SCANER HAS A LOT MORE DATA THAN JUST THE WALLET ADDRESS. It also contain's USDC's contract address. And I didn't double check, and assumed that the address I saw after deleting the extra ETH part was mine. But it wasn't. So when I hit withdraw, the money never got sent to me. Instead it got sent to that address, where it can't be recovered. And so I'm out that amount.

Luckily the amount was just $50, an amount I can live without, thought it would be nice to have right now. But I've learnt my lesson. In the future, always manually check addresses. PLEASE CHECK ADDRESSES. The username part of hive is amazing since I can do a quick glance to see if the account name is close to what I should be sending to(and if it was a bigger amount, I'd actually do a full check) and know right away that the address is right or wrong instead of just assuming.
