This will help out our locals Team Ukraine to understand the philosophy and the idea of Leo Tribe.

And today is the day X

Today I decided to speak with Khaleelkazi - a creator of Leo Finance community and main figure behind the LEO token.

R: How and when did you join Hive?

I found Steem 4 years ago as an investor and user of Bitcoin and Ethereum. I transitioned to Hive right when the chain forked and never looked back. Hive is truly the best of Steem, reimagined on a more decentralized platform than ever before.

When the idea of creating LEO Tribe came to you, and how’s that worked in the early days?

I created the LEO token before the idea of tribes actually came out. If you want to take it back even further, I was obsessed with SMTs (smart media tokens) on Steem and that was one of the main things that kept me on the Steem blockchain for so many years — the idea that I would one day tokenize and build a project of my own.

How many people in the team?

There are 8 official LeoFinance curators, myself and a handful of developers who work on various projects depending on projects.

Who were the first supporters, and how you get people engaged?

Our initial airdrop was to PAL stakeholders and during a sort of “gold rush” to use second-layer tokens over on the Steem blockchain. The community was excited to finally get their hands on something that was SMT-Like and so, I went about marketing that we had finally launched a project that fulfilled those 2+ years of dreaming about tokenization on Steem.

Nowadays LEO Tribe and community one of the most powerful here on Hive! Tell us about how you achieved it?

Haha, thanks. I think of LEO and LeoFinance as a community and a sort of “web3 business” where we can follow the principles of old media companies and new-age blockchain startups. Combining these two mindsets to build a community around crypto & finance. One thing that I believe has always been missing on Hive I a sense of solid direction. I love Hive and I know many other users do as well, but when you’re new to the chain and haven’t been here for years and years on end, it’s tough to find a niche and earn rewards/get noticed as a blogger.

The same issue exists on nearly every social media platform ever. It’s hard for the new entrants to take off and it can take months and even years of hard work just to cultivate a small amount of engagement on your content. With communities like LeoFinance, I think we can change that. That’s been my mission since Day 1 — to fulfill the mission of Hive’s social blockchain and make it easier to get noticed, get engaged and earn rewards.

There are some interesting services in LEO ecosystem such as hivestats and leodex, can you tell us more about the key ideas behind them and the future development plans?

We’re working on a long-term development roadmap that will include our current apps and the 3 apps that we have planned on our development slate for the coming 6 or so months. We have a lot of ideas and lately we have been bringing many of them to light such as LeoPedia.io, Hivestats.io, dex.leofinance.io and others.

Our coming app (which I haven’t officially announced yet, but will mention here) is a brand new blogging interface that is being built from the ground up. We’re using a forked version of Steemit’s condenser right now and it is clunky “spaghetti code” — as some have called it. With a new interface that we build from scratch, we’ll have a lot more flexibility to make something truly unique that caters to both authors and readers who enjoy finance & crypto-focused content.

After that app, we’re also rebuilding our LeoShop marketplace, starting a brand new project (which is a secret, for now) and pushing new iterations of Hivestats and LeoDex. All of this is slated to be rolled out for the rest of 2020, so it will be a jam-packed year with plenty of developments.

Why people should buy LEO?

I’m always careful with this question. For me personally, I believe LEO has a lot of utility in our community similar to how HIVE POWER has utility for anyone in the broader Hive community. Leo Power is a means of distributing wealth, supporting authors, and building your personal holdings. I think anyone who wants to be involved in a platform like LeoFinance should own some tokens and actively use them for content curation/engagement.

Is there any plans to switch further into SMT’s (if they are gonna appear) or maybe there are some other crazy plans regarding LEO you would like to share?

If SMTs come out (which I still hope for in the mid-term future), LEO will likely switch to one as there will be numerous benefits to a layer-one token.

As for crazy plans, we’ve always got some stuff in the works. I think the coming 3 projects will really surprise people on Hive. Especially #3.

Regardless of LEO FINANCE What you usually post about?

I usually post about crypto or finance… which is really why I started a community around those 2 topics in particular. I spend 90% of my day thinking about this stuff — reading about it, writing about it, talking about it… I love this space and can’t get enough.

You may find a rare post from me about health or something off-topic to finance, but that’s a very rare thing for me to do.

Tell me a bit about your background, what are your hobbies?

I started trading stocks & simple options contracts in High School. I’ve been obsessed with tech companies and startups for most of my life and have drooled over companies like Amazon and Tesla when they were relatively early in their life cycles.

My hobbies outside of the financial world include health, nutrition, fitness, reading, video games, writing, listening to books/podcasts, walking, etc.

What are your favorite blockchain projects outside Hive and why? How does your crypto portfolio look like?

I talk about my crypto investments often. I have some miscellaneous altcoin positions, but 99% of my wealth and energy are focused on:

Hive (and LeoFinance) Bitcoin ETH BAT These 4 crypto projects are what most excites me and I have come to realize that to be a successful investor in anything (crypto or otherwise) you have to break things down to a very fundamental level and understand them. You need to find a few things that excite you and then spend a disproportionate amount of time learning them and consuming everything you can relate to them. Too many people get tripped up because they’re looking at 20-50 different stocks or cryptos and they lose depth and trade it off for width.

Depth of knowledge and investment means everything to me.

How do you see the future of Hive in the next 5 years?

I think the Steem to Hive move was a big reset button for the blockchain. As a community, we rallied around this intense battle for control. In the end, I believe that we won.

We managed to rid ourselves of Ned, Steemit, Inc, and Justin Sun. In exchange, we got a blockchain where we hold the majority of the control and the community gets to decide what we want to do moving forward. The tagline I “Hive— Join the Revolution” and I believe that during the hard fork and fallout with Binance/JS, we managed to tell the crypto world just what the hive community is all about.

5 years from now, I see Hive underpinning a vast number of incredible applications and dApps in the crypto space. We’re already seeing this with Splinterlands and I believe that’s just the beginning. The potential for massively used applications on Hive is here and it’s just a matter of time until we’ve got 10+ applications with more than 100k MAUs. With all of that growth from 1 app, then 2, then 3, and so on, all the other apps will grow as well.

A rising tide raises all ships.
