Even if I wanted to

It feels like I have been in this bed for longer than I have been and perhaps it feels even longer for you guys having to read some of these posts. My daily routine has obviously been thrown out of whack, but one of the things I have been keeping an eye on (no stress) are the markets bleeding huge amounts of value and of course, HIVE taking a hammering.

But no stress.

Even if there was something I would do about it, there is very little I can do about it and especially for my DeFi investments, there is nothing I can do. I have my MetaMask wallet attached to a hardware wallet for conformation, which adds more security, but makes it unwieldy to use away from home and since I don't put any major keys on my work laptop (which I am using here), I wouldn't do it anyway. This means I can calmly watch it all happen with a certain amount of detached disinterest.

I haven't had much of a chance to read the news, but the couple things I have read are taking the general level of glee in the challenges being faced by crypto price, without recognizing that nothing has changed for the future of crypto. Much like many people in the industry, the media and most commentators on the crypto industry look at it from a very narrow perspective, often citing price as success, because that is what they believe it is all about.

What they have missed however is why many people are getting into crypto these days in the first place, as they think it is about making money - which it is. What they don't realize is that the average person has come to the firm realization that the current economy is not and never will be a place where they are able to excel or thrive and the best they can hope for is survival, and that is going to be touch and go. It is this that has driven them into the crypto market to try and build something for themselves that is not immediately commandeered by those who have worked tirelessly to make sure the average person has no chance.

Essentially, the majority of the people who control the economy take the approach that we should be happy that they give us any space to live at all, that they pump any oxygen into the atmosphere to sustain us. We should be grateful for the life they provide, regardless of how oppressive it is or how poor the distribution of resources become. While we are enjoying what amounts to our most successful levels of society and outcomes, we are having our freedoms fundamentally undermined to the point that we are getting frozen out of even the most personal of our decisions.

Regardless of average health outcomes, growing economic disparity is testament to a broken system, as it is financial availability, the ability to trade, that gives us agency and opportunity in modern society. When we no longer have access to the tokens of trade, we can no longer make decisions for ourselves in life, and we are seeing the consequences of a lack of agency and a sense of victimhood increasing in our world.

People are becoming depressed, bitter, violent and they are increasingly lashing out - yet their is very little acknowledgement that this is a symptom of non-agency. When people are unable to make decisions that they feel are important to them for themselves and their families, they are going to increasingly feel inadequate, irrelevant, disconnected, disenfranchised. And when humans feel like this, they defend what they have, they attack others, they stop acting toward a greater good, because they recognize that the greater good is never for them.

While so many people seemingly want crypto to fail, what the majority need to recognize that it is the only defense they have and if the majority decide to rebuild a community around a working economy, there is very little they will be able to do. People focus on the price as if that is the usecase of an economy, when what an economy and the tokens involved do, is exactly what crypto does, keep account of interactions that are important to humans.

Watching the markets bleed is difficult when considering it from the perspective of immediate opportunity that can be bought with fiat. But looking at the future of an industry that redefines what that process fundamentally looks and works like, and hopefully, will go a long way toward closing that currently widening gap between our humanity and our agency as humans. In time, we could end up somewhere quite different than today, despite all the people who don't want things to change.
