Life may be like a box of chocolates, but it is still somewhat predictable with Murphy's Law of Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, always in effect.

I had to go back to the hospital this morning to run some retests, because the tests on Friday were borderline at best and the doctor wasn't happy. I just got the results and a call that everything is okay now though, so that is a bit of a relief.

In a couple days, equilibrium (hardfork 25) drops and one of the things I am looking forward to is the change in curation mechanics, especially the removal of the convergent curve, which led to a decrease in comment voting. Well, I didn't stop voting on the comments I get, but I know many who did because it was costing them large amounts in curation.

With the new mechanics, it should be pretty easy for most people to have a general understanding of their curation returns, as it will essentially be 50/50 most of the time since most vote in the first 24 hours anyway. This means that for example for me who has about a $3 vote @25 cents, I can predict that I will get (30/0.25)/2 in curation a day, which is 60 HIVE. For much of the time, I have been getting about 20% less than that unless lucky with my curation. I suspect that most people will see an increase in curation return, unless they are specifically looking to maximize currently.

This gives some kind of stability of return that hasn't been on the platform earlier and may lead to some changes in community culture. For example, I think that it would be useful for people to reward their commenting audience for activity, as it is one of the key differentiators of Hive that we as staked users can give value to participants. Having said that, I think if people are self-voting their comments, they should get flagged. People can do what they want with their stake, but since it affects a shared wallet, the community can do what they want in the negotiation for the 7 days also.

At the current 25c blockchain price, all things remaining equal over the next year, I will distribute 5500 dollars worth of HIVE on the blockchain, which is about 10% of my total holdings. While that isn't a huge amount for some, that is over a month's salary for me, which makes it quite an incredible feat really, considering there is no way I could do the same using my IRL funds.

Funny isn't it? While people are called idiots for investing, no one seems to spend much time looking at how many people are actually getting helped on this platform by many people for years on end. I think it is because most people only focus on their own outcomes and if they are poor, they assume that the entire system is broken. It isn't the case and a lot more people could have been helped, had a lot more people been willing to help.

But at the end of the day, this is the way economies will pretty much always work, because despite how any of them are run, each still requires people to take responsibility for themselves, something that the average person doesn't want to do. Instead, they will condemn and complain, criticize the actions of others, even though they themselves will not act toward any kind of improvement process themselves. Funny how many people "know what needs to be done" but are absolutely incapable of doing it, organizing it or getting anyone to listen to them about it at all.

Sociale Dysfunction

But again, this is the way of any society and as much as I would prefer a far greater level of equality of opportunity globally, it just isn't going to happen, because humans are humans and humans are unreliable.

Any system which depends on human reliability is unreliable.

This of course creates a lot of opportunity for humans too, as those who are able to predict the behavior of others are the able to corral activities toward a single point, which is how we have ended up creating an economy that keeps centralizing more tightly, whilst still able to control increasing amounts of participants. The reason the economy is the way it is, is because of us, not some cabal - the governments and institutions have just been able to take advantage of our inconsistencies and inabilities and push us down the cattle run to have our freedom slaughtered.

Don't think you don't play a part - if you are reading this, you are definitely part of the problem too. We all are, as we are all part of the economy and our decisions all have an affect on future outcomes. It doesn't matter if we are rich or poor, we are all complicit, albeit potentially not equally.

Again, it is a funny thing that people want "equality" until it comes to taking responsibility for current conditions. Then, it is all someone else's fault. We see it on Hive all the time, where people complain about conditions, yet they themselves are part of the problem or unwilling to be part of the solution. It is too much effort, too risky, too uncertain, too, too, too....

Is it really though?

I mean, I had a stroke a week ago and have to go through rehab because part of my brain literally died and I have lost a fair amount of my ability - still here. Sure, struggling a bit more than usual, but participation doesn't have to be gold.

And I think this is the thing with the world at the moment. People have become so accustomed to having everything done for them, that they can no longer do much for themselves and are no longer capable of playing a productive role in the development of their own environment. People are impotent victims now, with no avenue of action other than to be irrelevant dicks on the internet, while everything that is important to them is commandeered.

Yep, things can go wrong, things rarely turn out as planned - but it is better to die doing something meaningful and failing, than die doing nothing useful and succeeding.
