Hive: 1 Year Ago
The Hive Blockchain was formed via a fork on March 20, 2020. This puts the new chain, which does extend back to the Genesis block, at roughly 21 months. A year ago, we were approaching the end of our 9th month.
It is often best to step back to reflect upon what took place. For those of us where are here on a daily basis, it is easy to get lost in all that happened. Nevertheless, over the course of 12 months, a lot can occur.
Which brings up the question, where will we be with Hive in another year? What will this place look like in December 2022?
Certainty In A World Of Uncertainty
We can leave the specifics of what took place to those who monitor and record all the activity. It would be great for @dalz to pull up a report citing all the different activities and how many were done throughout the calendar year (once it completes).
What we can focus upon is what Hive is doing for us. We are going through some very difficult times. Depending upon one's view, there are tyrannical forces circling. Whatever the motivation, we see governments stepping up at cracking down. The hearings on Capitol Hill about cryptocurrency are the latest in that area.
Hive provides a bit of certainty for many of us on a daily basis. It provides the opportunity to connect with others with whom we engage with on a regular basis. This helps to connect many who are feeling isolated, some physically.
There is also the opportunity to take some control. On Hive, we can dictate our activities. Each day, we have the choice of where we focus our attention. Some write posts, play games, make videos, or comment. A few do all of the above.
Whatever an individual contribution, it is flowing into the collective. Nothing on Hive operates in a vacuum. Since this is the epitome of a complex system, it is all interconnected. As one area develops, that has an impact elsewhere.
All of this helps to "ground" many of us. In many ways Hive is stable, consistent, and always there.
Changing Lives
Hive is changing lives.
This is a vital component that should not be overlooked. In fact, there is a kickass marketing slogan. We see a lot of people joining Hive and, over time, posting about how their lives are being changed.
Wealth is being generated within the ecosystem. This is having a profound effect on a growing number of people. Through the different tribes, there are many ways value is being distributed. With individuals from so many different economic backgrounds, it is important to remember those helped via a single upvote. Going forward, as long as we keep building and developing, this will only expand.
How many can truly say that Facebook or Twitter changed their lives? Sure there are some who enjoyed enormous business success through the use of those applications. Of course, we know businesses that got destroyed simply because of a change in an algorithm.
With Hive, we own what we do. Our followers remains, unchanged by anything that is done at the base layer in terms of coding. The history and reputation that is gained through our efforts does not fall away overnight (unless we leave). Yesterday's activity is not suddenly worthless due to a change someone made in a corporate office somewhere.
This enables us to impact others via the different applications that are coming forth. We can believe the future is brighter since the network effort on Hive is still ahead of us.
Hive Is A Compounding Machine

Hive distributed rewards weekly throughout 2021. This is going to continue the ensuing year. Of course, this does not include all the different tribes, games, and other projects that are helping to fill people's bags.
Compounding is a vital concept in finance. The results grow with more time. That is the key aspect. This year added another 12 months to the time element.
How is your wallet looking?
Unless someone pulled the resources out, one's wallet is going to be larger today than it was a year ago. It is impossible to be active on Hive and not have the bags filling up. Rewards come from many different places. This can also get compounded when airdrops hit.
Those who have a long-term focus know this year was just another step in the process. The results of these 12 months build a foundation for further advancement in the year ahead. When the attention is upon building, market activity becomes less important. Hive keeps paying out regardless of the price, as do the other tokens.
We are starting to see the NFT-game being played. This year revealed a number of projects that show Hive is primed to really leverage this technology over the coming years. Naturally, we were already operating in that arena due to @splinterlands. This was the proof-of-concept that showed how NFTs could change lives in a short period of time.
The Core Team
These words are falling on many of the same eyeballs. Hive is made up of a core group of people with dedication that extends back years. This year we added a few more to the mix, those who are diving in with the intention of building on Hive.
We introduced #cryptomaniacs in 2021 and each week we interview individuals on Hive who are creating and developing. A lot of our guests are the mainstays from Hive yet we are finding others sneaking in. At the same time, we have a number who might not have the recognition of some of the more popular names yet are building in the background nonetheless.
It is always the core that carries organizations forward. Hive is blessed to have this. We have a certain group, from all walks, showing up daily and doing their thing. This is what helps to keep moving the ecosystem forward. None of this is coordinated which makes it look chaotic at certain times. However, it is through that lack of focus where we can see a great deal of power.
Splinterlands certainly jumped off the charts this year. The key for Hive is to get half a dozen Splinterlands. This will not happen if we are all focusing upon, well, Splinterlands. Activity has to occur in other areas for there to be breakthroughs. Where will the next one come from? We are assembling a decent list of options.
The great part is that anyone can join the "core team". Anyone coming in with the dedication and intent on being active is going to get on the radar of some. This is where our expansion comes from. Quite frankly, there are a lot of holes on Hive to fill. They are just waiting for people to show up and step in.
As we step back, it is easy to see the progress over the last year. This should instill a great deal of excitement about the upcoming 12 months. At the core of all this is technology. That means we can likely expect some acceleration over what took place already. This is part of the compounding mechanism mentioned above.
In short, if you weren't excited about Hive before, it is time to do so. If you want to truly change your life, the opportunity exists. We can be fairly certain this is going to happen to many in 2022. The question is will you be one of them.
