The space race is getting fascinating.

A few days ago, I wrote a post detailing how NASA is planning on a project that will be sent to the moon. The idea here is to mine after it was determined there are precious metals which were previously thought to be water sources.

Now, we see another project that is thought to be worth far more.

Keep in mind when reading this, the entire global economy is roughly $100 trillion. The wealth potential here is many times greater than the GDP of the whole world.

It is a mission that would could see some benefit from over the next 10-15 years.

Psyche 16 is an asteroid that is located in the Milky Way's main asteroid belt. It is presently located between Mars and Jupiter. It is thought to be the core of a protoplanet and not a true asteroid. Whereas asteroids are rough and jagged, Psyche 16 is smooth. This led many experts to believe it is the core of a protoplanet.

The advantage to this is that it is full of materials such as iron, nickel and gold. It is a 114 mile wide body that could easily surpass all the wealth that is presently on the Earth.

The mission just passed a critical design review stage. This opens up the door for launch in 2022 aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy Rocket. This will have the robotic spacecraft passing Mars in 2023 and being in place to orbit the body in 2026.

As we can see, the numbers get absolutely insane. Ultimately, we are moving towards an age where natural resources such a gold and iron will not have the same value as the scarcity vanishes. Of course, it is a situation where the materials will not be brought back to Earth but used for advancement of other projects in space.

Eventually, our concept of wealth will change completely. We are looking at a time similar to the colonization period of a few centuries ago when European countries raced to open up new lands and found crucial resources. The only difference is the race is taking place in space.

This does bring up the question of ownership. As many are starting to point out, this is only going to magnify the equality problem that is plaguing the planet already. Since only a few countries can afford or are advanced enough to enter the space race, most of the planet is going to be left behind.

We also see a treaty that was signed more than 50 years ago that bars any government from owning the resources that are found in space. This does not, though, apply to private companies. For many, this does not make the situation any more appealing. Already we are witnessing Earth bound billionaires race into space in an effort to stake their claim as we become an inter-planetary species.

In my view, I see tokenization as a means to alter this outcome. Opening space up to fractional ownership would spread the wealth across the entire human race. Obviously, there is still a poverty problem at the moment, but that can also be addressed over the next decade via tokens.

Nevertheless, when it comes to money, we simply keep adding three zeroes to the equation. There was a time when all talk was in millions, then billions, now trillions. Tomorrow, we will be focusing upon things in terms of quadrillions.
