Last time we saw a fine chubby silver specimen, time for a skinny one!

Once again it is a 5 Deutsche Mark, only this from 1971.

A pretty minimalistic coin so far, featuring a sexy slim eagle, the denomination below and the minting date on the front.

The other side is where things get interesting.

Before doing any research on the coin I thought these were some Japanese engravings or something. Silly me!

Turns out they are the initials Albrecht Dürer, a German painter and engraver, who was born in Nuremberg. This is a commerorative coin for the 500th Anniversary of his birth. As the coins reads, he was born in 1471 and died in 1528. I asked the AI to tell me a few words about him, he is short of a big deal

Albrecht Dürer was a German painter, printmaker, and mathematician who lived in the 15th and 16th centuries. He is considered one of the greatest artists of the Northern Renaissance, and his work is known for its detail, precision, and technical mastery. Dürer was born in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1471, and he began his artistic career as an apprentice to his father, who was a goldsmith. He quickly showed a talent for drawing and art, and he went on to study with some of the leading artists of the time, including Michael Wolgemut and Martin Schongauer. Dürer is known for his paintings, prints, and woodcuts, and his most famous works include "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse," "The Apocalypse," and "The Feast of the Rosary." He was also a highly skilled mathematician, and he wrote a number of influential books on geometry, algebra, and perspective. Dürer died in 1528, at the age of 57, but his work continues to be admired and studied by art historians and enthusiasts.

Ok, enough with this douche. Let's see the edge:

Here it reads DER ALLER EDELST SINN DER MENSCHEN IST SEHEN. I am German dumb so our friendly AI came to the rescue again:

In English, the phrase "DER ALLER EDELST SINN DER MENSCHEN IST SEHEN" translates to "THE NOBLEST SENSE OF HUMANS IS SEEING". This is a quote attributed to the German philosopher Immanuel Kant, who wrote extensively about the nature of human perception and cognition. In his writings, Kant emphasized the importance of the senses, particularly the sense of sight, in allowing humans to understand and experience the world around them. He believed that the ability to see and interpret visual information was a key aspect of human consciousness and intelligence.

That was an interesting titbit of info! Thanks AI 😍

Silverwise, this piece is 11.20 g of 0.625 purity, or exactly 7 g of silver.

So,all in all, a beautiful simplistic, yet with lots of historical references, piece!

Two eagles down to more to go!
