When Will The Mainstream Care About Crypto Again? I think it's Sooner Than You Think

I'll be honest it has been a bad two years in crypto. There have been few projects that have been released and even fewer that have lived up to the pre-sale they had. The tech is solid and I have personally used dapps that have shown how much potential the tech has but that killer app is still yet to have come out. There has not been one dapp that people use as easily as they do a regular app and even with the advantages you get by using them, they are still not as slick and user-friendly as an app you would download your phone is. We are close but we haven't gotten to that level yet. On top of it the price of crypto has gone down for two years straight. And it's been bad. We bottomed, then we down another 80% from there. A lot of alts went under and it shook a lot of interest off from crypto as a whole.

So what will it take to get things back to the same excitement as in 2017?

If you are active in the crypto world you might already feel a shift as people are starting to get pumped again that crypto will be back in the spotlight. Compare the sentiments on twitter a year ago and you will see people are a lot more optimistic then they were when bitcoin was at 3k. But we are not were want to be. We want crypto be used by the masses and new dapps coming out that are as popular as anything online.

Here are some of the things that need to happen (hopefully in 2020)

Bitcoin Needs To Break 15k

I would argue that we don't need to break ATHs for bitcoin to get the excitement back (though that would really help) but we need to get close to the 20k mark for people to really start paying attention again. 10k is a good start but we have been hovering around that level for sometime and it's not enough to get the conversation started. But 15k would be news. Does anyone remember the run-up we had in June 2019? Bitcoin went up to 12k. And during that time alts starting to climb fast and hard. There was a buzz in the air an people were ready for something to happen. The problem is nothing did and we dropped under 9k. Then everything went back into a lull. It was a short-lived run but it showed that people are ready to listen when price action starts to build. If we can get to 15k and hold it, alts can climb back to a solid level where it will be financially viable to use sites like Hive and Leo as a part-time job and it will then be hard to deny the value of the industry.

And if we can break 20k then forget about it. We could see alts explode and people will have to pay attention to the industry This will lead to more developers and large tech companies helping to build the crypto space . Plus it will be our second major time with a spotlight on us so no one can say it is just a bubble, that time has passed.

We Need An Alt Season

This will not happen until bitcoin makes its run but hopefully alts will follow. Bitcoin will always been the main story in the news but behind it will be coins like hives and the dapps that come with them. When value rises and people see that other coins outside of bitcoin can be profitable (and people can earn them without having to spend money) it will lead to a lot of users and interest in the crypto space. I know I am sounding like a broken record but the price of the coin that alts use will matter a lot for how many people use the dapp. Steem was a lot more popular when the price was over 5 dollars. I think we can see that with hive one day soon.

We Need An Dapp That Doesn't Feel Like A Dapp

Hive and Leo work pretty well. But what we need is an dapp on a phone where people download, put in an e-mail and can cash out their money to paypal when they want (and this might happen soon as paypal might take crypto). People do not want to worry about passwords or keys or going to the market in order to change their money for other money so they can spend their money. At the end of the day it needs to be a dapp that runs like a facebook account and a paypal account combined. People should have the option to hold their keys and such for those who want to have more control of their currency but we also need a lite version for people who are new to this world. This will also mean we need a way for people to recover their passwords. People can get more into it as they learn about crypto but an easy dapp would go a long way.

I think the time is coming and if we break that 15k-20k a lot will follow behind it. But we cannot squander the opportunity if it comes. People will be listening and we need to show them why this tech is the future.
