Firstly, Hive is a highly user diverse and opensource blockchain-powered community, that has a built-in marketplace economy through the integration of cryptocurrency tokens that are used to reward contributions and many forms of usage.

On Hive, it is the users themselves who are the owners, making the platform, applications and infrastructure a decentralized environment that generates value with no single point owner, no CEO, no employees - just us the users, creators, owners, collaborators, contributors, developers and investors. What this means is that all value generated on Hive gets distributed back into the community through many gateways and value streams.

There are many ways to use and earn on Hive, but we are not going to get into all of the details or background in cryptocurrencies, decentralization or blockchain technology and instead, we can focus on participation as a content creator and answer the title question:

Why should I post my content on Hive?

It is simple.

1. The world of digital content is changing

Catalyzed by the internet, the last few decades have seen a rapid shift from professional produced content, to user sourced content and every social media platform leverages what users create to create and populate their product. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and all the rest use this freely available content to attract clicks so they can collect data to analyze and target the same users as a market for their paying customers, the advertisers and corporations to sell products. This generates a massive amount of value and profits for the platforms, with close to none of it going back to those who actually produce the material, those who add their content into the mass for free.

Now, the evolution of content creation and distribution is changing and content creators are waking up to the fact that we have value. The challenge is, how to collect and distribute that value amongst ourselves without requiring paid middlemen and the short answer is, blockchains for the infrastructure to manage tracking and transactions - and platforms, applications and communities owned by us, the creators of the content to act as the interfaces.

This is what Hive is designed to do, this is what Hive does.

2. Ownership of experience

On Hive, the content that we create is our own, submitted and timestamped to an immutable blockchain, a place that will protect and preserve the integrity of our contributions. But there is more to it than that. HIVE tokens can be bought and "powered up" (which means staked) and this makes any user an owner, much like having shares in a company. However, this "stake" can be actively used to earn more tokens through the process of rewarding other users, meaning that it is us the community who decide what content earns, not an algorithm, not a marketing team looking to attract advertising revenue, us. Through stake, we own the direction of rewards.

This is important to understand as a content creator as it is through being rewarded by the community that your content is going to earn HIVE tokens, the on-platform currency that holds value and can be traded in various ways. This means that creators have a lot of power over their own earnings on Hive if they are able to consistently create content that the other users (marketplace) think is valuable. Plus, through earning or buying and powering up, a content creator can also add value to other contributors and earn as a reader through consumer rewards too.

I will say again, all value generated goes back into the community.

3. Censorship resistance

Because the world of content has changed from professional to user-sourced and as a result, an enormous amount of revenue is being generated through advertising in various forms, censorship has become a rapidly growing issue. In the past, censorship was at a government layer but was quite hard to implement, but now with digital content, it is far easier to simple "cancel" a user account and delete all content. The reason for the cancellation is ultimately down to profit seeking, meaning if an account gets in the way of profits by for example, bring bad optics to the platform, it gets warned, censored, limited, shadow banned or deleted altogether.

Because a content producer already earning or looking to earn has built up a following and doesn't want to lose their current or potential income, they have to fall into line with the rules of the platform censors, or risk cancellation. This gives the platform ultimate control over what is added to the platform and what is deemed "unacceptable" for whatever reason they choose, which is getting more draconian daily.

Because content added to Hive is on an immutable and decentralized blockchain, content can't just be deleted when someone feels like it. This records and protects content no matter what it is. No one can be cancelled.

4. What you own is yours

The combination of the owned experience and censorship resistance means that what you own is yours, recorded and timestamped, including your followers. One of the biggest problems with building up an account on a centralized platform is that what one is actually doing, is building up a use case for their users to stay and consume. Once this has been built, the platform can "demonetize" a user and still retain all of that user's followers, all of that hard work in building up an audience, gone.

Hive is different in this regard because Hive the infrastructure can have multiple (unlimited) interfaces built upon it with users also being investors and creators. For example, there are several video streaming platforms on Hive, and an account isn't limited to just one and even if a creator changes to another, their following list automatically keeps seeing the content. This means that instead of content creators having to keep the platform happy to keep earning, the platform has to keep the creators happy to keep users. This is part of owning your experience.

5. And of course, the earnings

Not only is the world of content creation and delivery changing, but the way people earn is also shifting. Job stability is fading as automation increases and the need for multiple revenue streams to earn adequately is growing globally. Hive offers another revenue stream for earning some value, as well as provides the potential for investment and ownership in a new industry that is rapidly growing and will generate an immense amount of value globally. Participation on Hive is investing into the future of multiple industries, applications and economies at the ground floor level, it is being where the ball is going to be.

On top of this, unlike earning in dollars that are subject to local control, limited mobility and what is generally going to be a decreasing value due to currency inflation, the HIVE earned potentially has a far greater future value than what it is today. The more demand on HIVE through usage, contributions, application development and growing audience, the higher the token price goes. Participating on Hive and building following (especially if bringing in from other platforms) is a direct way to affect the price of what one holds, meaning what is earned and held now could be worth a lot more later. How much more? No one knows for sure, but remember that this is an immature but rapidly growing industry that has the technology and potential to replace the current models on the internet, as well as off.

Not only this, because we as users are also the owners, we all have the incentive to increase the value of the Hive community and we can all affect the future of it in multiple ways. Contribution isn't limited to posting an article such as this one, it could be through developing an app, building a community or supporting other users in numerous ways, including commenting and voting.

The real question is,

Why wouldn't you post your content to Hive?

Hive gives content creators a no or very low barrier entry into the up and coming world of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, in a space that supports open learning and earnings. The potential to earn something is very good in comparison to all other platforms and the learning undertaken now can lead onto new careers and revenue streams that may not even currently exist. Why would anyone not post their content to a platform that is growing in value, will draw an increasing amount of attention and is owned by and puts all value generated back into the community itself - no middlemen, no censorship, no transaction fees, no borders - freedom.

Build your content, your account, your experience - and own it.

See you on Hive!
