Hola Splinterland Players!

I hope you all are doing good and enjoying Splinterlands!

Well, after a long wait, finally I am a bit happy because our state government is decreasing lockdown levels slowly. At the city, all kinds of transportation are in motion again, also small shops and Malls are started opening and I hope we will be back soon into our day to day normal life.

Well, the sad part is I have to leave this lazy life now and have to restart my life again. Honestly, the only part that I really loved about these lockdown days is that I had a lot of time for myself. I hanged out a lot in discord with my friends and also played Splinterlands a lot, like really, a lot!! I even invested a fat bag of DEC to buy some max untamed death monsters with contessa and also made my Alpha Alric Stormbringer to max level.

Talking about Splinterlands, one thing is now very clear among the Splinterlands players that only completing daily quests will not fulfil your desire in this crowded game where everybody is fighting hard. If you really want the best return of your investment and time, you must win those tourneys. Back in days, when any time tournaments didn't get released and there were only the normal ones to play, I used to found it very hard to strictly sitting multiple hours in front of my computer screen to play all the tourney matches. Most of the time I even thanked myself when I used to lose in the top 32 or 64 positions because by then I had already lost my patience. But, now things have changed a lot and Any time Tournaments really have changed the game. Without a doubt, it has changed the whole rewarding system of the tournaments. I am now able to play all the tournaments, anytime within the time range! I can make line-up my deck against my pre-decided opponents anytime, so no waiting for hours, no missing the late night or early morning tourneys and no sacrifices on other things for the sake of playing the whole tourney!

Well, every evolution brings a little imperfectness within it and the same goes for any time tourneys! The problem as raised by many known players is with the TB points (Tie-Breaker points) which decides a winner whenever a tie happens between 2 players. I have witnessed many times that even after winning all the matches in a tourney, one goes down to 4-8th place because of having lower TB points than others. Many of us are leaving playing tourneys after losing 3 or more matches as we have made ourselves certain with the fact that we won't get any of those good prizes after losing 3 matches and I admit that is the case most of the times.

In the picture below, you can see the first 2 players in the list is having the same score 10-1, but JENNA16 is at the first position and TRINITY2 at the second. Why? Because they have different TB points!

I was also not aware of the TB rules and how they work. Well, it's my mistake that I didn't bother reading them at first. But when I recently played some matches and in spite of losing only 1 or 2, I got finished with a very low place so I got more curious about how they really work and if there is any way to gain good TB points during tournaments to secure better places.

What you are about to read below is nothing but my best understanding of the rules. I may not be exactly right about all the points. If you find any flaws, please let me know and I will rectify it.
I have also tried to explain the tie-breaker system using simple words and without any strong technical terms. So I hope you will find it easy to understand.

TB points

In short, TB points are tiebreaker points which determine a winner whenever a tie happens between 2 players. Tiebreaker points are equal to the sum of point scores of every opponent the player beats and half of the point scores of every opponent the player draws, multiplied by 2.

TB = [(point scores of every opponent you beat) + (point scores of every opponent you draw / 2)] * 2.

TB = [(100% point scores of every opponent you beat) + (50% of the point scores of every opponent you draw)] * 2

So, it simply adds the total point scores of every player that you beat in that particular tournament + half of the total points of every player you made a draw with. Lastly, it multiplies the sum with 2 and that is your TB point!

Rules for resolving points TIES, in order of precedence...

The following rules are being applied whenever there is a tie between 2 players! The rules are being applied one by one sequentially from first to last to decide a winner. If the 1st rule decides the winner, it will not proceed for rule 2 and so on.

Rule 1: The player with fewest losses wins the tie.

Obviously, for every win, you get the total points owned by the player and for every draw, you are getting half the points. So, that is a very clear fact that you have to try winning most of them in order to place yourself in the winner seat. Also, note that if the winner get decided using rule 1, it will not process the further rules.

Rule 2: If tied players played each other, the tie is resolved in the winner's favour.

Well, that is also reasonable. If a tie happens between 2 players that have played against each other in that particular tourney. The winner of that tie will be the winner of the match between them. It's a very crucial rule because you may have lost only 1 time in the whole tourney and another person too with the same score. So, from both of you, the winner will be him who has defeated another one in that particular tourney.

Rule 3: Player with the higher TB score wins the tie.

Even after applying the first 2 rules, if it is found that those 2 players are still on a tie (both players have won the same number of matches + they made a draw when fighting together), then the third rule gets applied. By this rule, the player holding the higher TB points will win. And we already know we get 100% points of the players we beat and 50% points of the player you make a draw, So if you have beaten the top players anyhow, you have a good chance to reach the top positions.

Rule 4: If still tied after applying those above 3 rules, the winner will be decided who have the highest rating as of the tournament start.

If all those 3 rules are unable do decide the winner (both players have won the same number of matches + they made a draw when fighting together + both player has exact TB points) which I think will only occur once out of every 10,000 times or even more, the winner will be the one having higher RATINGS (trophy count) in the ranked matches. And I don't think they will have the same RATING points as well after passing all those 3 tests above. Is it possible?? What do you say?

Well, guys, that is all about tiebreakers. Also, plz remember that rules are always being applied from the first one and the second rule only applies when the first rule is unable to pick a winner and so on.

I guess most of your doubts are now cleared on the TB points. Now don't overthink about the TB points as you know now what to do

But how to get more TB points ?

Well, we can not directly affect the TB points and it really impossible to predict what will be your TB score until all the players complete all their matches. But, as per the rules, I think the below points that I have shared with you all might help you stay right in the path to win.

  • Try to win all the matches. The fewer draws and losses, the more your chance to rank up in tournaments. Every win gives you the full TB score of opponent where every draw gives you half the TB, always keep that in mind.

  • Try your best to beat the strongest players in tournaments. Strong players will carry a large number of TB points so beating one of them will boost your TB points. I am sure this point will motivate you to kill strong opponents.

  • Lastly, I would suggest to Maintain a good RATING in ranked matches. Try your best to hold your dream position throughout the season because it may help you to win at the 4th rule. Who knows, You may get lucky sometimes ;)

I hope you liked my article. I will be pleased to know all of your feelings.
