The crypto world is getting hyped up again as Bitcoin goes up. We have seen this before, but it has failed to reach the heights of three years ago. I think with any of the crypto coins there has to be a really compelling reason to have a sustainable basis for higher prices. If it is just about hoping for profit then it will just go through boom and bust over and over. I think in HIVE we have something a little different in that you do not need an initial investment to be part of it and if you want to spend it then you do not have to worry about slow, costly transactions.

I know other coins improve on Bitcoin too, but how many have the social side we have? Our community is fairly small with just a few thousand engaging regularly, but we are not just talking about the money all the time. You can post about music, travel, nature or whatever you like and still earn something. We have to try and build up the user-base to make it more viable. We will not attract big names without an audience.

I am putting aside some HIVE and other tokens for a couple of events. One is the @splinterlands land sale. I am not spending a lot on the game, but it might be worth getting a couple of plots. They have also linked up with Brave, which could bring in more players. The other event is the monthly HIVE Power Up Day that happens at the start of each month. I have reached Orca status, but am keen to keep on growing my stake so I can do more good.

The @tenkminnows project has a new initiative to help people level up on Hive through the aquatic life forms. Getting to minnow, dolphin or orca can inspire them to keep going. If you know people who are really close to the next level then let us know.

Here are some suggestions of Hivers to check out and possibly follow:

  • @gribbles is a British electronic musician who is looking to make more of Hive. If we can encourage the musicians we have here they will spread the word that there is an alternative to other social platforms.
  • Long-term Hiver @hitmeasap has been writing about various aspects of Hive, such as self-voting. We need to have these discussions. We have freedom to do what we like, but it is interesting to see what motivates people.
  • @katharsisdrill has been hard at work continuing his Phill from GCHQ comic that mixes geeky themes with spies and the supernatural. It has been running for over four years now and some of it is available in printed form now. If anyone in the UK wants a signed edition I have some spares.
  • @dickturpin and I differ in our politics, but we can still get along. We share an interest in the potential of open source software. He has a fun sense of humour and has been working to promote Hive.
  • @thetroublenotes are a band creating cool music that they have taken around the world. Like many they are struggling in these pandemic times, but they will perform where they can.

Some of the people mentioned above will get a share of the post rewards. You can set beneficiaries in Peakd and hive.blog.

It would be great to see more people doing #followfriday posts or other campaigns to drive engagement on Hive. We all benefit from a more engaged community.

Hive five!
