You Might Not SUCCEED, But You Should Still TRY Every Day!

Back when I was a teenager, we spent several years living as expats in a retirement area in the south of Spain. As a result — between ages 13 and 16 — my primary influences and lifelessons came from significantly older people.

We lived in a pretty swank golf course community, and my stepdad — a retired English businessman — had many friends around there; most of them also English.

Most of them had little "use" for an inquisitive and often bored teenager, but there were a few notable exceptions. One of them was a retired executive named Geoffrey. Geoffrey — who was in his 70's — always seemed quite happy to go out on the golf course with me, and he would tell endless tales of his very interesting life, traveling all over the world. I think he was actually happy to have an audience who found his stories from the business world interesting, rather than endlessly laborious...

One of the important lessons I took away from my afternoons golfing with Geoffrey was that persistence will often get you further than brilliance and raw talent.

I suppose he was really teaching some version of the old Aesop's fable of the Tortoise and the Hare, but a large part of his advice related to the world of investing... and how it was possible to amass a considerable fortune simply by never failing to put a little aside, every single day.

I was remembering this particular bit of advice earlier today as I read various posts here in our community about how to invest to make huge gains in the crypto markets.

On reflection, It seems to me that poring over endless charts in an effort to "time the market" in search of "success" will just as likely end in disaster, as in riches.

Then I thought about Steem and how many people have put lots of effort into "chasing whale votes" and trying to follow the "right people."

And I thought about how if you just stay persistent and publish something decent every day you eventually end up building something pretty significant. Not because you had a brilliant moment of inspiration or a clever system, but because you keep trying every day... even on those days when you don't really feel like it, perhaps because your last post only was rewarded with 7 cents.

But if you keep going even on those days when nobody else seems to care, you're actually gaining ground!

We live in a very impatient world.

Where we once actually took an hour to read in-depth articles in financial newspapers, today we tell ourselves we only have time to read 256-character tweets in a few seconds.

Then we apply that impatience to investing, often setting up grossly unrealistic expectations in the process! And tell ourselves that it doesn't feel like "success" when we only added 2 SteemPower to our stake on a particular day.

But let us remember that it is possible to fill an entire barrel with water from no more than a dripping faucet, and that 2 Steem means you showed up and TRIED, today!

Thanks for reading!
