Recently, the UK has announced that they advanced the project to build the biggest weather supercomputer in the world with the help of Microsoft. Met Office, the UK meteorological service, has finished a deal regarding the project, which previously had a budget of 1,2 billion pounds.

Once it will be operational the next summer, the supercomputer will offer detailed simulations of local forecasts to help the emergency services to prepare for floods and heavy rains. The new system will be an advantage for rural communities, which were affected by floods in the past.

With 285000 CPU cores and 10000 GPUs, Microsoft says that the machine is as fast as the first five in the world. Currently, the title of the biggest supercomputer is claimed by Fugaku supercomputer in Japan.
