There are many people who have been struggling this year to pay their rent. For millions, just affording the basics right now like shelter and food are the only things they can worry about. They haven't got the luxury to think about buying anything extra. All around the country renters have sought help through one rent assistance program or another, and despite what the government has been willing to help with or whatever changes they put into place to temporarily stop evictions, there is still a great need.

Donating More Than $1 Million

Voluntary charities like Helping Hands of Midland is just one organization that has donated more than $1 million this year so far to address the demand for rent assistance that so many still are asking for help with.

Financed By The Community

Willing donations that come in from community members are going to help other community members to pay their rent, utilities, and more. Aside from giving money people in the community also given lightly used items that can be sold again for cash at their thrift store.

Other organizations also help to contribute to the organization itself.

The demand for their services has seen a dramatic increase this year because of COVID-19 and they've already given out 2x their usual annual amount to help others in need.

There are thousands of people who might be 2 or 3 months behind in rent right now and that is why some fear that 2021 could bring more evictions as a result.

They have been getting dozens of calls everyday for help, more than 70 to 80 calls asking for financial assistance since the beginning of this year. They can only help roughly 7 people each day and so there is a great need still going without help.

None of it would be possible without those people who have been giving to the cause. The community members who give voluntarily and who donate their time to make the organization function, are who make it possible.

This is just one great organization that is helping people to stay in their home so that they don't end up on the street. If those who need help are going to wait around on the government to provide a solution to meet their needs, then they might surely end up on the street or dead.
