After the nightmare of creating a Christmas whislist is behind us, we are now facing the difficult taks to select the right holiday!
In the past years, the selection was easier because it was clear and simple that we would go to a sunny country and pick a premium all inclusive resort! While this selection of such a resort isn't a simple task because it has to tick all the boxes we have selected!

But this year the wife decided to turn things around and trow some extra requirements on the table! The requirements the kids have are already difficult but these new requirements aren't actually nice to haves but carved in stone and real must haves! One can compare it with non functional requirements.

She did select these extra requirements:

  • No all inclusive resort
  • 25% cheaper as the past years
  • a place or country we have never been too
  • and preferably a place we can reach by car!

Well this knocked me completely out of my comfort zone! While I do know that she is not really the all-in person but also wants to discover the surrounding I feel conformtable in an all-inclusive resort. Probably the trigger was our last holiday to Turkye were besides 2 half rounds of golf and a organised excursion we didn't leave the hotel. More or less as the year before. In Mallorca we always had a rental car for the complete holiday, so at least 40% of the days we were visiting town and stuff. Which I don't mind!

So besides the requirements of the wife we also have the requirements of the kids. Which are:

  • Waterslides

  • The possibility to play football

I more or less only have one strict requirement:

  • seperate bedrooms for the kids and us. Daddy also has a holiday :)

And due to the fact that the Euros will be going on, I don't want to have a travel day on the 12th of July, you never know if Belgium reaches the final!

So we are now looking at campings in the Soutern of France. And for some reason we also stumbled on a resort in Croatia!

All selected campings and the resort do check multiple boxes! But maybe the offer of Croatia is too good to refuse. And it even good better after mailing with the hotel directly. They do offer us a cottage with all inclusive service for the price of 75% what we would have to pay for only the stay in a camping! But there are also some negative things about! For instance Croatia would be a 14 hour drive away. Which is 3 to 4 hours longer than the Southern of France. Also there aren't a lot of activites for the kids. No waterslide but a possibility to play football. I am sure that they would prefer the campings in France but ...

But selecting a camping also isn't an easy task. It is a complete different world than the hotel business. Yes there are common things presented on the website but much more factors have to be included in the selection. Like what is in the surroundings, are there enough restaurants not to eat the same things day after day and so on! Probably we will have to make a selection with all pro and cons!

We will make the decision before the weekend will be over! But the mail we got for Croatia will make it extra difficult! Quality for money wise it is unbeatable!

Cheers, Peter
