The past week, I was really down with a cold, running nose, eyes, sneezing and a cough. So, I decided to try the soup which the elders made to reduce the severity of a cold.

Ingredients

crushed black pepper cumin seeds
tamarind water salt water holy basil leaves coriander leaves

Method

Crush a few black pepper. Heat water and add the crushed pepper and cumin seeds. Add a tablespoon of tamarind paste diluted in water. Add salt and let it boil. If you like, you can add a tomato or other vegetables that you will be able to digest in case of a fever. In my case, I did not add any vegetables.

After the concoction has boiled well, add coriander leaves or holy basil or mint leaves as per your taste and if you happen to have it.

Let it cool a bit and try to sip this from time to time. It will be a great relief in case you have a persistent cold and cough.

Brown rice soup brings down fever. Just cook brown rice in water on a stove top in a utensil - slow cook and not pressure cook. Strain the water. Add salt to the water which will be cloudy white in color and drink it. You can eat the rice too if you feel like it but just make sure it is well cooked.
