My birthday walk: May 27 2023

Well, yesterday was sure a day to remember!

I didn’t have a plan for celebrating my birthday. I wanted to go to the cinema to watch Avatar 2, but it turned out that no cinema near me was still showing it.

During the week I looked at the weather forecast and it was predicted to be glorious. What better way to make the most of it than go to the beach? I know Nunzia loves going to the beach, so when I mentioned it, she was over the moon!

What she prepared for me was pretty breathtaking though! The cliffs we were going to walk to looked great in google pics, but seeing them in person is on another level all-together.

The journey to get there though… well, you can see by the steps we took. I can’t remember last time I walked this much! 34km according to my app! Is that even possible? Not sure, but my feet and the rest of my body definitely felt like it!

Of course we took pictures once arrived at the beach, which was around 8:30am.

And then 100’s more pictures to mark how far we’ll walk and of course document this amazing journey.

Can you see those cliffs at the far, left end of this picture? And the land curving to the right and around? That’s how much we walked. It feels surreal that we made it.

But we did! And we promised to do it every year around my birthday. Although next year I really need to start preparing for this weeks if not months in advance if I don’t wanna feel like I’m dying towards the end of that walk 😂

We also took many breaks, which slow us down and made the walk all day long. It was great to sit down and talk and take it all in, but next year we’ll probably make the most of the morning colder temperatures to walk and then take more breaks on our way back.

After taking the little ferry to get to the other side, the cliffs looked much closer, but we were barely half way there around 3pm 😂

My phone had to be in flight mode most of the time, as the battery was draining at a super speed, while I was trying to document all steps of this amazing adventure. My 15 years old shoes died even before we got there.

The views though!

Sitting at the top of those cliffs was like visiting another universe. So different from every day life.

Nature is amazing. Quite scary too at times.

Walking back the sun was still quite high up on the sky and we thought we might miss the sunset as we’ll reach our car before it sets, but that was a foolish thinking of someone who doesn’t realise how far we still have to go! So the sunset waited for us too.
