Splinterlands Tournament Suggestion/Idea

Hi fellow Steemians / Splinterlands fans!

I have been having some pretty good luck playing Splinterlands lately, particularly this week!

I got a great legendary black dragon, I wish I didn't sell the first one I got but oh well, it happens.

The highlight of my week was coming in 8th place in one of the bronze league restricted tournaments. It was only the second tournament I entered so I was shocked. The first one I got completely blown away by therealwolf or someone using a similar name and avatar as he has. Wasn't a fun first tournament experience!

Getting the 700 DEC for the placeholder was certainly a very much needed boost!

One thing I was thinking of that would be pretty awesome is to be able to bet on tournament fights. One of the games I used to play a lot, Taichi Panda, allowed you to bet on the weekly tournament that was held every Sunday night. Betting on the fights was a fun way to incorporate some light gambling with the game but only small amounts. It's fixed depending on the battle.

I think this would be pretty awesome to have in Splinterlands. I'm sure people have suggested it, but I haven't seen those proposed so I'm throwing it out there!

Features

So the betting is a pretty great feature, particularly for those of us who aren't the highest in the ranks and have lots of DEC rolling in. It can of course backfire but that's the beauty of betting, it can go either way.

The combination of gaming and light betting is fun and adds an additional element that can bring people in. I remember always having to log in on Sunday evening to do my weekly betting since those events were the only ones that were available for betting on.

Specifics

There are requirements to actually do the betting. You have to be an active participant of the league itself in order to bet on the battles. This wasn't the case in the other game I played but since there are so many tournaments in this game, I think it would make sense to limit it so people don't abuse it. This means that you can't sign up for a league, don't show up to any battles and expect to be able to bet on the tournament fights.

An additional limit may perhaps be you are only allowed to bet a few times per week or once a week. This may be unnecessary but just putting it out there as a safety to prevent abuse.

The betting would depend, in my thoughts, on the type of tournament and numerical battle in the tournament itself. For the bronze league battles the maximum you can bet is 500 DEC on the final battle of the tournament. It would be a tiered value similar to the other game. You could bet small amounts and it would get progressively higher depending on the battle. The first battles you would be able to only bet a maximum of 50 DEC and it would progress as there are people eliminated. The second battle would be 100, third battle 200, fourth battle 300 and so on, up until the last battle with a maximum bet of 500. You would only be able to bet once per round of the tournament so you can't drop 50 DEC on every battle you see to maximize rewards. You would have to choose wisely which one you bet on.

The rewards of the betting would be 50% of the bet. If you bet 500 DEC, you could win 750 DEC for betting successfully. The people who lost the bet, their DEC would go to the pool for the tournament to pay for those who won the bet. Any left over DEC after the tournament is over gets burned or it could go back to the overall DEC pool. Either would work but burning the DEC sounds like a better option.

The lower league's could benefit a lot from these types of things. It's difficult sometimes for us lower tiered players to do things like collect DEC to help build our deck and this would be a good way to help that along. It sets limits so that people can't rely on this solely (and battles of course) to get ahead. I know with any game, you need people to buy things so I think this would be a good balance between those who just bought the initial starter pack and those who want to spend a little bit here and there. It doesn't disincentive people from spending money, in my opinion. I've spent more Steem than I would have thought, but it's fun so I don't mind it. I would like to help newer players and I think this would be a great way to do it.

Let me know!

I don't normally like to tag people I don't interact with, particularly popular accounts, but I'd at least like to get this noticed by the @splinterlands crew and if they think it's a solid idea that would be awesome. I'm also going to tag @aggroed because I think he's very involved in the Splinterlands crew (not 100% sure though, still trying to figure out the big players and what their associations are [I know he's behind the incredible Steem-Engine part of the platform]), but he's also very involved in the development of the platform.

Let me know what you and anyone else who reads this, thinks of this idea. I know there are absolutely two sides of a thought so if you agree or disagree, let me know I'd love to hear what your thoughts are!
