Steem – Get Paid to Post Curate!

This post is sort of continuation from a post that I did 7 month ago People, Literally Get Paid, To Hit a "Like" Button Around Here.

At that time the curator reward share was 25%. Since then a lot of things changed around here. Now we have a merger with another community that can potentially bring a lot of exciting new things to the blockchain. Time to revisit this hypothesis again.

A reminder on the Steem inflation distribution.

  • Authors 40%
  • Curators 40%
  • Witnesses 10%
  • Steem.DAO 10%

Apart from the above the SteemPower stakeholders are also been rewarded for holding powered up Steem. Your SteemPower is increasing daily by small amounts. Its sort of proof of stake rewards.

A more closers look on the Steem inflation distribution with some numbers on the top steem earners from each category can be found in the STEEM Overall Inflation Distribution | Authors, Curators, Witnesses, DAO | Who are the top earners from each category?. For a period of 30 days the authors and curators received around 800k STEEM each, and the Witnesses and the Steem.DAO received around 250k STEEM each.

There was a change back in September, known as HardFork 21/22 that changed a lot of things, mainly for the better. One of the things is that the author/curator reward was changed from 75/25 to 50/50 split. This made curation rewards even more attractive.

I have made some previous analysis looking for dependencies on which the curation reward depends. The main conclusion from this is that curation rewards (CR) are dependent only from the voting efficiency.
Depending on the voting efficiency the annual ROI only from CR can be in the range from 6% to 15%, and in some extreme cases even more. If you take a look at DLease at the moment there are SP leases available for around 11% to 12%. There may be some room for earnings for efficient curator there. But this is just an example and you will need to investigate a bit more and made your own decision.

Curation / Like

If you think about it, this is the current situation on the mainstream social media. On platforms like Youtube the ratio is vastly on the side of curators. Probably 1% are content creators and the rest is curators. On the Steem blockchain for a long time everyone wanted to be a content creator because the economy system was like that and incentivized people to be content creators. This model will clearly not bring the masses. The number of spectators is always much greater than the number of performers. Now, we can tell people that they can get paid to hit the "Like" button and try to bring as many as possible here. Sit back and enjoy the show.

Tipping forever

Steem gives this ability to tip forever. When people use services like Patreon, once you give your tip, those money are gone forever. Here you can power up some STEEM and use that to tip authors forever. The more you Steem Power you have the more you tip each time when hitting the like button. You give away a tip and receive a tip at the same time. Tipping and earning indefinitely.

At the end some mandatory charts from my side 😊.

Number of accounts that are posting

Number of accounts that are curating

At the moment there are around 4000 daily accounts posting and around 30k daily accounts curating/voting. The monthly numbers are larger.

We can see that even with Steem history with more incentive on the authors side, there are still far more accounts curating than posting. The possibility for bots is there, but still the shier number of accounts is much larger. The 50/50 split, authors/curators makes much more sense when you have so much more content consumers than content creators.

Cheers, and don’t forget to hit that like button! Its good for you as well :)
