Many players were doubtful, and even incredulous, that the arrival of a video game of these dimensions to Nintendo Switch could happen, and more in the way it has done. Numerous leaks that were taken with tweezers, crazy information and even names of studies that related to its development were the predominant tonic in the first half of the year. E3 2019 was the perfect time to break this silence and confirm the existence of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition, a production that arrives on Nintendo Switch under the "witchcraft" of CD Projekt RED and the Saber Interactive studio in order to provide us with a conversion at the height of the circumstances.

Bringing the impossible

If we go back to the past, we can see that Nintendo Switch is a platform of many guarantees and capable of moving large productions without problems, although making some sacrifices to allow us a good performance both in portable mode and on our televisions. Technically it is where we find the most differences, but in the playable have we introduced new features to highlight? Continue with us in the following lines to know what are the points that differentiate The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in its version for Nintendo Switch from the rest released in previous years.

Portable and with all its contents

As the title name itself indicates, we are facing its Complete Edition, something very similar to the Game of the Year version that we could find some time ago on consoles and PCs. The main and secondary missions of Blood and Wine and Heart of Stone, as well as updates that introduced improvements to the game system and corrections, are available from day one and, we insist, within the game cartridge itself. All this content provides us with more than two hundreds of very varied and entertaining hours in which to embark on endless adventures and, at the same time, travel through multiple locations.

Doing a little review of the story of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we will put ourselves in the role of Geralt de Rivia, well-known hero and protagonist of the series of fantasy novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski. It presents a world of large dimensions that we must travel in an adventure in which to find Ciri, a former student of Geralt and who is wanted by The Wild Hunt. After many comings and goings, in addition to tours of a variety of locations in your search we will witness to prevent the fulfillment of the prophecy of Prophecy of Ithlinne and that threatens this universe. The union of the forces between Ciri and Geralt will be fundamental to prevent a dreaded end.

In the playable, as I have mentioned on previous occasions, we find a large map in which to develop our combat skills within an action title with open environments. We will have all kinds of missions that will take us to various places in which to perform simple errands such as delivering a specific object, defeating monsters or even confronting dangerous final bosses full of rivals to beat. As usual, we have both main and secondary plot plots, so completing them will cover many hours. Their controls comply, strongly recommending playing the title with the Pro remote when we find ourselves playing on a television. For its part, with the Joy-con we have to say that we also have very similar controls to those seen in previous versions and that, at times, they do not react as accurately as we wish.

Great work of optimization and performance

Most of the changes are found in numerous technical sacrifices that have had to suffer in its version for Nintendo Switch and allow it to be introduced in a 32GB cartridge. One of the most notable is its dynamic resolution that changes in its version with the console inserted and in portable mode. This, in addition, affects in some moments with decreases of the rate of images per second causing that it undergoes some slowdowns in very specific moments that agglomerate certain amount of enemies or objects. With the console inserted in the dock we found a resolution of 720p with about 30 images per second, giving fluid movements. In portable mode it is lowered quite gradually falling down to 540p but, although this is lower, it does not imply that it is worse since it "conceals" some technical deficiencies such as its textures, which have suffered a significant downgrade.

Something that we have noticed in differences in versions of domestic consoles and PCs is in the funds, not having so much definition and giving a sense of blurring to save on resources. Another interesting point to know its performance is in the drawing distance, being reduced to guarantee a better optimization. The NPCs are reduced in their movements animation frames, being able to appreciate from a distance some slowdowns. One of the greatest sacrifices we will notice in many of the objects and environments, which see the quality of their textures diminished with less defined forms and being more resource-saving. The lighting effects fulfill efficiently by giving us some very beautiful postcards. Finally, we will end with the reflections and effects generated by water and fluids, being a surprising aspect and that, despite not being comparable to that seen on consoles and PCs, they are efficient.

Large adventure wherever and whenever you want

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition is a true work of "witchcraft" by CD Projekt RED and Saber Interactive. It is a work more than remarkable and that shows that, despite the numerous technical sacrifices, Nintendo Switch is capable of having the heavyweights of the videogame catalog. It is a real enjoyment to be able to enjoy so many hours of a title full of missions, objects and primary and secondary plots, as well as a very entertaining action. If you have not yet managed to enter this universe with Geralt de Rivia, it is a great opportunity to get this title.
