Hi Steemians,

We all want to earn money as much as possible through our skills and efforts. Many people focus more on the earning side and do a lot to increase their daily or monthly earning. This is indeed good because our life and future plans depend upon our regular income. But people forget that saving is also important and investment even more to add some more figures on the savings.

I had started earning since the year 2003 when I was in the second year of my graduation and my saving practices started too since then. I wanted to be independent in terms of self expenses and from the year 2003 I had stopped taking pocket money from my father because my earnings that time was sufficient for all my expenses and further studies.

How I started Investment in Share Market

While I was doing computer course in the year 2005 then I met with few friends over there who were investing in share market on intraday basis. They told me that they're only doing trading in company shares and they're earning enough for all their expenses. It looked nice to at first place but I didn't start it immediately because most of my earning was being used for my study and necessary expenses. But I had this in my mind to start when I will have some surplus money with me. Few years passed and and I finished computer course as well. I even changed my job in the year 2007 where I got better salary. Now I was in a position to Invest some money in share market and then I opened my demat and trading account.

I opened the account but I was not well aware about share market investment strategies so I did study for sometime. During my study I realised that Investment for short term is more profitable and more risky too and that's why I was never in favour of intraday trading. Even now I follow the same strategy in all my Investment plans. I listed our some of good companies to buy their shares and out of that Satyam computers was the one too. I kept my investment diversified and that time my plan was for 5 years.

Like cryptocurrencies there's no surety of returns in share market as well. We can select the companies based on current or previous performance but you never know when they are going to do something that might affect your money negatively. I choose few companies who were doing very good that time and even it wasn't looking like that anything wrong will happen but it happened and reduced the value of my portfolios.

How I choose the Companies to invest -

I was in the favour of diversified portfolio since the beginning so I just took out the sum of money from my savings and divided proportionately between all the companies on the basis of their performance. My friends were asking me to do intra-day but I didn't do because I had no time to keep a watch and even I had no resources to stay online maximum time. Even there was no mobile phone trading in year 2008 by the trading company I choosen.

Few companies in my portfolio did very well and few did very bad and even gone bankrupt so over-all effect of my Investment was almost like same. I kept on holding all my shares and sold some in 2011 which gave me some profit but it was not a big one.

Current Holdings (portfolio) and Strategies

I am still holding some of shares in a hope if they will perform good and I can book some profit because if I sell then for sure it's a loss but if I don't sell then I can be hopeful to get better returns.

I have sold off my 50% share holding and my current holding is good enough to bring my capital back but that's not what I invested for. I have few bank's shares which are doing good and I keep on selling time to time to book some profit. Its been over 10 years and overall I am not in loss ( intact profitable but not as expected).

Learning

There is learning in everything that we do and what I learnt is that I am not good for investment in shares however I like Investment on equity so I do it through mutual funds where I don't need to do anything except paying money every month through SIP ( Systematic Investment Plan). I will talk more about about SIP and mutual funds in another post soon.

Conclusion

We can't be so good in each and everything about Investment and need to find out our area of interest because it's suggested to learn and research first before making any investment. Its not at all suggested to put money just because someone is saying. He may be good at it but I may not. Even we can't depend upon anyone completely because nothing is sure shot when you expect more returns than traditional ones.

20% reward from this post will go to @ph-fund as I have setup as beneficiary of this post and supporting @project.hope which is founded by @crypto.piotr

Thank you so much.
