I think this belongs here.

Some unknown person writing.

Lots of messages have been flooding the discords for a new kind of phishing attack by some unknown group on hive, trying to take your keys from you so they can take your money. Hard earned digital money.

I am loving the speed at which we are all being made aware of this new threat to our personal kingdoms here on hive. I for one am thankful to all the people that have been involved in spreading this public service announcement. Thank you.

But just this morning after seen the first announcement on discord I then go to my go to place which is hive.blog. I know its not leofinance, not sure why. I just like the look of the clunky system and I am used to the place where I started. I think I am a bit of a troglodyte, I don't mean to be. It just happens to me sometimes. Well when I landed at my front end of choice I quickly went to check all my friends posts, as you do. To support them when they make good posts that I like. I am not picky so I tend to like their posts pretty much. Not like I give a good payout. In fact it is miniscule to the scheme of things.

One post in particular I read ended up with me being at the comments section and I was surprised by the same announcement appearing there of a warning not to click on a link in a comment. Curiosity got the better of me and I found the offending comment with the link involved.

At first glance I saw the comment has been downvoted by the person who made the warning above it. I was like hmmm, DOWNVOTE!

Then I got to thinking. The person commenting on the post with the offending link. Phishing link. Were they a victim?

If they are? Are our downvotes the right thing to do cos I feel we are starting to bandwagon against a victim. I don't have a solution on how to handle this I am just stating my observation here because these guys just got their accounts stolen and then everyone is then just going on about making this the culprit of the phishing scam.

Maybe the warning is the way to definitely help everyone that is not aware and eventually the account will be lost or recovered if they had the correct recovery processes in place. Now how will this be for the account that fell victim later and are damaged financially and now reputationally. I think one option would be to mobilize as a community to assist the victim in any shape and form to ensure the damage to their account is minimized as much as possible.

This is one victim.

Conclusion.

I think a visit to the persons account profile page would be a must prior to any action to make sure you identify who the account is or at the very least see if it is not a new account that's just been made to spread the phishing scam.

Thanks for your time.
