What is the hardest part of living in hyperinflation?

Living in a country with hyperinflation is suffocating, it is no secret that Venezuelans lost their purchasing power a long time ago. Prices increase every day and there is no control to avoid this, which has led to the currency losing its value to the point that in stores and supermarket chains prices are marked in foreign currency, in the case of Venezuela, in dollars, although the official currency is the bolivar fuerte.

As a university professor I have seen, with sadness, how our salaries have disintegrated and today they are only enough to buy, at most, two or three products of the basic basket. Faced with this situation, many left the country, abandoning years of dedication to the universities, years of productive work. The few of us who are left have been forced to seek income by other means to be able to sustain a tight family budget, which does not allow for luxuries either, but which helps us to survive in the midst of a totally destabilized economy.

¿Cuál es la parte más difícil de vivir en hiperinflación?

Vivir en un país con hiperinflación es asfixiante, para nadie es un secreto que los venezolanos perdimos el poder adquisitivo hace mucho tiempo. Los precios aumentan todos los días y no existe ningún tipo de control para evitar esto, lo que ha llevado a que la moneda pierda su valor hasta el punto de que en los comercios y cadenas de supermercados los precios están marcados en moneda extranjera, en el caso de Venezuela, en dólares, aunque la moneda oficial es el bolívar fuerte.

Como profesora universitaria he visto, con tristeza, cómo nuestros sueldos se desintegraron y solo alcanzan hoy para comprar, cuando mucho, dos o tres productos de la cesta básica. Ante esta situación, muchos se fueron del país, abandonando años de entrega a las universidades, años de trabajo productivo. Los pocos que quedamos, nos hemos visto en la obligación de buscar ingresos por otros medios para poder sostener un presupuesto familiar ajustado, que tampoco permite lujos, pero que ayuda a nuestra sobrevivencia en medio de una economía totalmente desestabilizada.
