The social media side of Hive may over time prove to be its most meritable function, most specifically because it aids in simplifying how value is moved across the blockchain.

1inch is partnering with Unstoppable domains to simplify its user-end functions such as how value is moved across the network and ownership is not sacrificed in the process.

By default, this is something that should be a base layer function on all blockchains, we're looking at the evolution of domains which initially were a bunch of numbers called an IP address, in a similar form, cryptocurrency addresses are a bunch of alphanumeric data which can be difficult to remember at free hands, and so users have to readily have a copy clipped somewhere.

The Ethereum naming system and Unstoppable domains are practically trying to solve this problem, but the thing is, it has long been solved.

The Hive Naming System

Although not frequently talked about, hive by design had eradicated the burden of lame alphanumeric strings for cryptocurrency addresses, so the saying that "Hive is ahead of the game" is frankly true!

On Hive, your username is your address, no complications there.

We've also had a series of conversations on if hive accounts are NFTs, and we can actually break down how very much of a unique asset (NFT-like) it is.

First, we can never have a new @badbitch so you can really not get rid of me, haha.

Popular community members have once in a while made comments about how surprising it was that nobody had achieved the hive name, and I was just choosing a random name to be very honest, I had tested out many other name choices of which the system refused and after minutes of thoughts, I was able to come up with @badbitch.

Is @badbitch an NFT?

YES, it is.

Hive accounts are all NFTs, all initially worth the same amount - 3 HIVE currently.

I call it an NFT because based on the design of the blockchain, I own this name and nobody can take it away from me, they can never be another @badbitch as it is written, it makes it totally unique to itself.

Are HIVE Account Top-level Domain Names?

Here we can examine how much each account is really worth and this really has nothing to do with its wallet. It rather has to do with firstly;

The Keyword or keywords.

This is the name itself, one thing with domain names is that they are products and can be resold. Similarly, a hive account owner can easily sell his/her hive account if needed.

So in this case, the Keyword matters, is it unique? Would many others want to have it? Undoubtedly, @badbitch may be in top demand, in fact, let's check something out, badbitch.com oops, already taken, most of the domain names with "badbitch" seem to be "premium domains" so yes, it;s definitely in top-demand.

An era will come when selling hive accounts becomes a big business. Maybe I should set up a marketplace for selling account names? It would be heller crazy and a commission would be paid to the mediums that were used to create the account in the first place.

Nobody steal my idea or I'll sue you 🙂.

We can see how these keywords can automatically make hive accounts worth more than the initial 3 hive. An account like @google is worth way more in this context and whoever owns it is sure having future plans.

The second factor that makes Hive accounts top-level domains is;

Reputation

No, I am not referring to the number beside each hive account. That number is really not important in any way, it just makes some people seem more relevant than others and I consider that my account isn't any better than others based on that number.

That said, the reputation of a hive account can be likened to domain authority, this is earned through how much people find the content of the website relevant. So when a hive account has acquired quite the audience, it earns more "authority" and that can be factored into pricing.

But Hive accounts and their contents are not “Self Hosted”

Have you heard of speak network?

Speak network enables projects to self-host their contents via a distributed system of content management, IPFS. An example of a centralized media using a similar model is Decrypt, yes, content on the platform is alternatively hosted via IPFS.

So if you fear censorship on hive in any way, you can self-host your content!

With all of these base layer functions of the hive blockchain, we can see that many of what other networks are trying to build have already been implemented on the hive blockchain.
