Travel the World of Postage Stamps - Marine Paintings by I.K. Aivazovsky - St. George Monastery, Ivan Aivazovsky (1846) - USSR, Soviet Union 1974 - Michel USSR 4221 - my hobby.

Greetings friends!

Today we will see another postage stamp from Series Marine Paintings by I.K. Aivazovsky, issued in the USSR in 1974.

This postage stamp shows us a magnificent painting by the artist Marenist and is called - St. George Monastery, Ivan Aivazovsky (1846).

A small, perforated piece of paper will give us a touch of art, history, geography and finance.

Let's start with art, Aivazovsky depicted in great detail the sea bay where the monastery is located St. George.

We see the standing ships in the roadstead, this sight is calming, apparently, at that moment Aivazovsky was calm and did not think about the storm).

Let's figure out where this monastery and the cape that you see on the canvas are located.

The cape is called Fiolent and it is located on the outskirts of the city of Sevastopol, in the Crimea, now annexed from Ukraine by Russia.

Do not try to go to the Crimea through Russia, you will be blacklisted by the customs and border service of Ukraine.

As you already understood, the monastery itself is located in Sevastopol, which is an important seaport.

As a rule, or very often, monasteries were built on trade routes near them.

The monasteries produced various products such as wine and honey, various handicrafts, and a large number of merchants made it possible to quickly sell them.

This postage stamp received a face value of 6 kopecks of the USSR, for this money you could ride a trolleybus twice, or buy six boxes of matches at that time.

Let's take a look at this postage stamp.

For my publications, I do not use stock photographs, it is fundamentally important for me to use photographs that I have made with my own hands for publication and I can name them - authorial work.
