End of season reward was worth the effort

The Splinterlands season finally came to an end a couple of hours ago and with that comes the traditional ceremony of opening packs. It is a day when ranked battle players in different parts of the world gleefully open the chests they accumulated over the course of the 15-day season.

I was privy to take part in this Splinterlands tradition and overall, I am quite pleased with the outcome. After opening 41 Gold chests, I was met with a decent set of rewards that makes up for all the stress of the season.

In the Chest

According to Peakmonsters, the total value of the 41 Gold chests I opened is $9.83. This value includes a variety of assets that includes gold foil commons, two epics, some potions and most importantly, two chaos legion packs.

As you may or may not know, I erroneously took profit and bought 10 Chaos Legion packs some hours ago. After opening the packs, the total value of monsters I found was far less than the amount spent to buy the packs, so I chucked it down as an unrealised loss since I have no intention of selling the said assets.

Well, after opening my 41 Gold chests, I received a pleasant surprise that has offset that loss and has in fact turned into unrealised profit. Anyway, I didn't learn anything from opening the past 10 packs and decided to open the two I received from my 41 Gold chests and to my greatest surprise, I was lucky at the first bite. Not so much in the second pack but that's okay.

So, in the 11th Chaos Pack I opened today and one that I got "for free" from my 41 gold chests, I found a Gold foil Obsidian that is currently valued at $18. That's quite low for a gold foil rare summoner, so my hunch is that the value of the monsters will rise in the near future.

Thanks to finding a gf obsidian, the total value I've found from the last 12 packs jumped to $32 range and invariably pushing me to the profit zone from opening packs.

In summary

This is basically how Splinterlands goes sometimes; one minute you're in the red zone and then you find a gold foil somewhere that completely changes the situation.

Now lets be clear, I'm not telling you that you need to buy 12 packs before you make a profit or even break even. Things could turn out to be much better or worse in your case, but one thing for sure is that you'll never know if you don't try.

In my case, I was fortunate that I got two more Chaos Legion chests that I decided to open instead of simply liquidating and the Splinterlands gods decided to smile at me.

It was a really good season for me and the rewards turned out to be the icing on the cake. It was absolutely worth the investment and time spent.
