YouTube changed Terms of Service considering monetization

Few days ago i got an email from YouTube about the change of Terms of Service. One of the changes is Monetization.

Minimum requirements to join Youtube partnership program:

Follow all the YouTube monetization policies. ... Live in a country or region where the YouTube Partner Program is available. Have more than 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months. Have more than 1,000 subscribers. Have a linked AdSense account.

So if you don't have 1,000 Subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the last 12 months you CAN'T monetize your videos, but YouTube CAN do it now.

YouTube will now monetize all videos on the platform that they see as suitable. If you are not in the YouTube Partner Program YouTube will now monetize your videos and all the ad revenue will go to YouTube. You as a content creator will get 0% of it.

Everyone involved in this is at a loss, except YouTube.

  • Creators that are in the Partner Program will earn less because there are now more videos that will share the total number of ads.

  • Creators that are not in the Partner Program will earn 0, but YouTube will earn from their content.

If you are not in the Partner Program and your video goes viral, YouTube can play ads on your video while you are waiting to get your Partnership Program approved. So few million views of monetization will go to YouTube. They could even postpone it, so even more money goes to them.

How much money is there?

This is just an estimate that is made from the info of my account few years ago. Also, the number of accounts that upload videos is really a guesstimate.

There are 2 billion logged-in monthly users. Let's say only 10% are uploading videos, and let's say half of that is monetizable.

That is 100,000,000 accounts.

From 2017 when i had my YouTube account monetization in 10 months i made 10$ from it. My account somewhere from 70-90 subscribers and my videos were getting up to 500 views. And most of my videos are monetizable. So 1$ a month. And i live in Serbia, so that affects the revenue from ads a lot.

100,000,000 x 1$ =___________________ a month.

Not bad YouTube, not bad. And i feel that i downplayed it.

I heard some thoughts that YouTube did everything to become a monopoly in the industry and now they are moving to fully cash in on it. Is there a way to change that? Could we make a difference?

It will be hard, but if you want to try some social networks that are decentralized, censorship-free, and give you an option to earn from your content check them out:
