I've been playing the Rising Star Game on Hive for probably about six months now. I am not going to go into a huge amount of detail about the game since there are a ton of other posts out there about that. If you want to learn about the game, go and read those.

In fact, I should probably take my own advice, because up until the beginning of this week what I thought was a decent strategy turned out to be quite the trainwreck.

Thank goodness I have awesome online connections like @slobberchops to guide me down the right path. Truth be told, I think he was getting frustrated with all of my questions and obvious lack of understanding about the game, but he helped me out anyway.

As I was saying, up until this week, I was basically just going through the motions and not really paying attention to what I was doing. I had purchased some card packs and I was just burning through missions and lesson. I was growing, but not that significantly, I just figured that was the pace of the game.

My Biggest Mistakes

  • I didn't realize that it is a good idea to specialize in one specific kind of instrument. I had items all over the place from Roland 808 drum machines to lutes.

  • I didn't realize that the number of instruments you have impacts the amount of skill you earn from doing lessons. I had just been doing Production Lessons not realizing I should have been probably doing Drum Lessons.

  • I didn't realize fans are what really drive how much you make per gig in Starbits. I knew that I needed to keep my fans and skill in line so that my ego wouldn't go up too much, but I was doing this at the expense of my earnings. I have a much better plan in place now.

How I fixed it

First things first, I did some card swaps with @slobberchops and @steevc so that I could focus on one specific kind of instrument. With those exchanges in place I can now maximize the amount of skill I am earning from doing lessons.

Then, I had about 150k Starbits sitting in my account. I decided to take the dive and spend pretty much all of those. I took 50k and I used that to buy more instruments in the family that I had chosen to focus on. I then took the other 100k and I purchase 12 card packs with those funds.

I was hoping to get some of the higher artists, but when I pulled the legendary Private Jet, I was about over the moon! I promptly put it on the market with my legendary Pink Lambo that I got from a pack back during the Alpha because I knew my Ego couldn't handle that many fans.

I was able to pick up a Winston, Frankie, Lolita, and Derek card from the packs, so I am not too sad about that. I was hoping to get the @steevc card, but I guess I was pushing my luck already with the private jet.

I also got some more instruments that I once again traded to @slobberchops and @steevc to build up my preferred selection.

I need to get my ego in check from the fans that I added with those artist cards, but once that is taken care of I should have a pretty good plan in place to start earning and growing my account again. I plan on moving the profits into some more card packs to continue to grow my account.

It is still going to be a bit of a slow process, but now that I have a plan, I think I am on the right road to stardom!
