I might have a problem...

I have been pretty honest and open with the fact that I am sort of heavily invested in NFTs over on the WAX blockchain. After the Hive hardfork I moved the majority of my STEEM into WAX and BTC. This set me up to get into some projects over there fairly early.

It is funny, because when the first packs of Garbage Pail Kids dropped on WAX, I just wasn't seeing the value. I am still not quite sure I see it, but there are people who do, and that is all that matters at this point. That is all a market really needs to keep going.

Then the gaming side of things started to emerge on WAX and it all made more sense to me. I have already mentioned how games like RPlanet and Alien Worlds have been doing quite well for me, but one I always neglect to mention is Dark Country.

It isn't because it is a bad project or any thing like that. I think the main reason is because I just kind of suck at strategy card games. I never played Magic: The Gathering, I am horrible at Splinterlands, I was never very good at Hearthstone, and I lost pretty much every game of Gwent I played in Witcher 3.

That doesn't mean I haven't invested in the project, as you will read, I absolutely have!

If you are interested, the game is fully playable right now with a Wax Cloud Wallet account. You don't even need to hold any cards. In these early stages they are giving you full access to all cards.

There is even a tutorial here that I should honestly probably run through. Feel free to give it a look yourself if you feel so inclined.

One of the things I really like about the game is the art. The work they did on the cards is pretty fantastic. You can tell they put a lot of time and effort into making the cards look spectacular.

As I said though, I think I have a problem... It appears I have become somewhat addicted to these projects over on the WAX chain. More specifically land sales for games on the WAX chain. Not too long ago Dark Country announced that they would be having a land sale on the WAX and FLOW (NBA Top Shot) blockchains.

I didn't participate in the FLOW land sale, it just seemed like too much work to get an account setup and funds over there. Plus, there are some things about that chain that I don't really care for after reading about it some more.

On the WAX side of things, they decided to go the whitelist route with two rounds and then a general public sale. As I said, since I invested pretty heavily in the game with my RPlanet funds, I was able to make both the round 1 and round 2 whitelists.

The benefit of the round 1 whitelist was the fact that you got to buy the packs at a 25% discount. Plus there were only 120 people whitelisted and 120 packs available, so you were guaranteed to get at least one of each pack.

By some stroke of luck, not everyone who was whitelisted for the first round was able to take part in the sale, so some of us got two and in some cases three of each pack. At $150 a piece for the Rancho packs (1 piece of land) and $450 a piece for the Mayor packs (3 pieces of land), they still weren't exactly cheap.

A quick look at the secondary market tells me the Rancho packs are already selling for ~$300 a piece and the Mayor packs are ~$1300. I expect those prices will go up after the public sale closes on May 29th.

I was able to get two of each in the first round and in the second round I was able to get 1 Rancho pack. I probably could have gotten more, but since I did so well in round 1 and the prices jumped up to $200 and $600 for each pack, I decided to exert a small amount of self control.

Owning lands in Dark Country will eventually earn you Shadow Dimes which ideally will supply another passive revenue stream much like TLM does on the Alien World sides of things. The team at Dark Country have a really awesome roadmap for lands, so I am super excited about the project as a whole.

If you had told me even a year ago that I would be dropping the equivalent of $1400 on digital cards for a blockchain game, I would have fallen over laughing. I mean sure, I have bought some Splinterlands packs over the years, but this is truly next level for me.

There is a ton of awesome stuff happening over on the WAX blockchain. I think we are just one major exchange listing away from becoming a top 50 if not top 10 token. The userbase is definitely there, outpacing the NFT markets on every other chain.

Be sure to check out WAX and Dark Country if you haven't already. These existing projects will likely be the roadmap for how NFT games are built in the future.
