Can I make more DEC by renting out my summoners and at the same time improve my gameplay through renting in?

Balancing

Not long I discovered the wonderful opportunities of Splinterlands rental market. For quite a while I had just been enjoying the game using my favorite splinters and cards while leaving cards I didn't use lying idle. After the big discovery of the rental market, I rented out unused cards to create a stream of passive DEC income. Most of them are Death monsters because that's the splinter I suck at playing with.

This strategy has been working pretty nicely even though it took a while to find the perfect price balancing. You don't want to rent out using the price Splinterlands is suggesting - it's always too low. Also, you don't want to set the price too high cos in that case it won't go out any time soon. By checking out the prices other players set up you can find a good median. It's like limit orders and not too greedy ask will eventually get filled.

Renting Out

Today I took a step forward in maximizing my rental gains. I decided to rent out all of my Chaos Legion summoners.

I had the idea while doing a daily focus on Fire. I have Tarsa and Pyre both on level 2 and with neither one I cannot play with level 3 Uraeus monster. Well, sure I can play but the level will be reduced to 2. So just out of curiosity I checked the rental markets and found a level 5 Tarsa with the price of 18.4 DEC/day. Pretty cheap. So I rented that one for one day only and thought, why not do this every day? Just rent a summoner(or two) for each focus?

To cover the costs I decided to rent out my level 2 summoners and realized I'm going to make a pretty nice profit using this strategy! Here is the breakdown:

Summoners rented out:

  • Contessa L'ament lvl 2 - 40 DEC/day General Sloan lvl 2 - 34 DEC/day**
  • Mother Khala lvl 1 - 34.5 DEC/day Obsidian lvl 2 - 29 DEC/day**
  • Pyre lvl 2 - 35 DEC/day Thaddius Brood lvl 2 - 28.9 DEC/day**
  • Wizard of Eastwood lvl 1 - 33.5 DEC/day

Summoner rented in:

Tarsa lvl 5 - 18.4 DEC/day**

Specialists

Summoners I still left in my deck are:

  • Byzantine Kitty
  • Mylor Crowling
  • Brighton Bloom
  • Alric Stormbringer

I still haven't decided whether to apply this strategy to these summoners or not. For example, Mylor Crowling is a somewhat specialist in my opinion and the renting price ain't that high also so I'm not sure if it's worth it. Alric would bring in a nice amount of dec but with Byzantine Kitty they are my "safety summoners", meaning if I get an opponent or a ruleset that is unplayable with the splinter in question, I can switch to another splinter and not surrender.

Conclusion

To further boost this new rental strategy of mine, I now upgraded some of the monsters I had multiple copies of. From now on I will just rent a summoner to match the daily focus and that can also cope with the high-level monsters. So all in all this is a big change for me in how play Splinterlands. This will hopefully help me to get more chests in a shorter time frame and also raise the amount of passive income of DEC.

I would love to read about your your rental strategy, so do leave a comment!
