What's up dear splinterlands players and hive community! A LOT going on with splinterlands going from the launch of SPS rewards to the Riftwatchers hype and the release of new set of cards... I won't go ahead of myself as I've noticed how badly I'm struggling in the depth of the Bronze League having to go against bot after bot and burning my ECR for nothing.

So I've got this idea: Why not rent to Old Meta Water Magic Cards that was dominating Bronze a year ago!

Magic Water Cards Meta?

This composition is the focus of 2 objectives:

  • Heavy Magic Damage
  • Enough Tankiness through Health and Armor

Both these factors are equally important! You can't deal ton of damage with some units that are vulnarable to a single sneak or opportunity attack while almost a need to wipe out the entire enemy monsters before they come for you.

Let's start off with the summoner:

Alric Strombringer

A 3 Mana Water summoner from the Beta Edition providing a +1 Magic Damage to all monsters. Alric was available on the starter deck but not anymore with the split of ranked battles format to modern and wild as you need to rent it.

Djinn Oshannus

An 8 mana Water Monster with:

  • 10 Health making it a suitable tank for the 1st position despite the lack of Armor
  • 5 Speed you'll be surprised how many shots the enemy will miss
  • 2 Magic that'll be 3 Magic wilth Alric Buff
  • Void reducing upcoming damage from enemy Magic attacks

I do consider this monster a go-to in 95% of your battles, not only it deal heavy magic damage but also a great frontliner w lots of HP and High speed without forgetting about Void that makes it even better against enemy magic damage monsters.

Venari Wavesmith

The one who made this meta truly oppressive and hard to beat!

Regarding his stats, it's an okayish monster with 3 health, 2 speed and 1 (+1 from Alric) magic damage but what makes this card shine and rise in value is the Protect Ability that we all loved (or hated):

Protect: All friendly Monsters gain +2 Armor

Magic water monsters major weakness is their vulnerability to sneak/opportunity attacks because of their low health which is solved by this ability that offers 2 Armor and garantee that every monster can fire its attack on the first and even the second round before going down!

Ice Pixie

This monster can fill in any composition and offers quite the treat with a low 2 mana requirements:

  • 3 Speed

  • Flying

By placing it on last position, we can see some misses from the sneak attack monsters while dealing a hefty 2 magic damage and being protected by Protect

Others

  • Medusa
  • Enchanted Pixie
  • Elven Mystic

These monsters were among the starting cards that are commonly used in this composition and fire Magic damage to melt the enemy team.

How did it go?

Cool win streak right? That loss was coz I didn't play Alric + Oshannus

I'll be highlighting some matches I've had with this lineup:

VS Quix + higher level Life monsters

battle For a low-medium mana battle, enemy comp is surely dominating with a double Slow form Quix and Time Mage and Chaos knight having Shield and 3 damage getting constantly healed by Venari. This battle is very hard for any level 1 melee/ranged composition but not for Oshannus + Venari WaveSmith Protect + Meerdali Heals stomping them in a couple of rounds!

Oshannus can take all 5 of you alone!

battle Instead of Venari, I've picked Deeplurker to complete my daily Quest and as you might have guessed, both sneak monsters did wipe out all my backline resulting in Oshannus VS all 5 of them. The key to winning this battle isn't because of the heavy magic damage but thanks to its Speed and Void Just count how many attacks enemy monsters did miss!

Dear Obsidien, you're not good enough!

Magic VS Magic! it's true that Protect is useless in this battle, Failed Summoner Magic reflect will kill pixie BUT we have Oshannus Void and Heal for Merdaali while Firing 7 magic damge per turn leading to a Dominating Victory!

Profits/Loss?

Rental Cost:

  • Oshannus for 0.64 DEC/day x2 = 1.28 DEC

  • Alric for 10.4 DEC/day x2 = 20.8 DEC

  • Total: 22.08 DEC = $0.015 (1 DEC = $0.00072)

Amount of SPS to Break Even: 0.23 SPS (1 SPS = $0.068)

My battles rewards: 0.03 SPS and

Not even close to Break Even

Conclusion

Hope you did enjoy reading my journey in the depth of Bronze, it truly was fun going on a winning streak but profits wise: GET OUT OF BRONZE!
