The environment is one thing that is in big focus in the crypto space today. There has been allot of eyes looking at the negative effects of proof of work mining and most blockchains at this point are running on proof of stake networks.

Well, guess what? Proof of stake takes up allot of power too! Data farms take allot of power, but yes, not near as much to run a blockchain. But there is still allot of power and additional infrastructure that comes with server farms. The power has to come from somewhere.

Many of today's server farms are attempting to run mostly on alternative energies to try and stay as carbon neutral as possible. We use farms for our validator nodes that are carbon neutral. For those that cannot be completely carbon neutral, we balance that by donating a portion of our validator commissions to Ecologi.

What is Ecologi?

Ecologi is a social enterprise, not a non profit organization, so they don't have the same financial limitations and government intervention as actual charities do. What they do is fund and build projects all across the world that help offset carbon emissions. This include planting trees as well as funding alternative energy projects all across the world!

What we like about Ecologi is there transparency. They are extremely open about their projects and what they are doing with the funds that are given. They use 85% of the funds donated to the company. The other 15% is used for admin and company overhead.

What we also like is that we have the ability to track our progress on their site! This goes with our spirit of transparency on the blockchain! It gives you fun little graphics too on the site to show off your forest and projects!

Ecologi Is Not Crypto Based

They are not a crypto based company. We actually have to exchange into USDC and then out to fiat to donate. Maybe we can encourage them to accept stablecoin payments in the future, but for now, this is how we have to manage the donations.

We like that we are able to track the number of trees we plant and the other types of projects our donations fund. This is great for our carbonZERO DAO that is set up so our community can be apart of our donation process!

Great Solution For Businesses That Want Carbon Neutrality

Ecologi offers a great opportunity for those businesses that are concerned about their ESG scores and want to offset their carbon usage. Ecologi plays in the carbon credits game so they donations to their company can go to credits to help offset your businesses carbon output!

It's also just a great way to get your business involved in environmental causes that can be easy counted and followed! This give businesses a way to set donation goals. For example, we are running a special bonus to help us get to a certain delegation goal. If we get there we will donate 500 or 1000 trees out of our team cut. This is on top of the 20% of our commissions that we already donate! We have a lofty goal of planting over 100,000 trees by the end of 2022, and Ecologi gives us a great way to do that!

They are a small business themselves and state on their site that they cannot help every company become carbon neutral at this moment, but if you are a small business as well, they can certainly do the trick for you. The bigger guys need to find their own options for now, haha. Ecologi is for the rest of us!
