This Isn't 2017: I Saw A Coinbase Commercial On TV!

I've been speaking with a few friends. The few that actually participate in crypto, about how this is different than 2017.

It's cringeworthy to say that because so much has changed but it still is crypto.

Before tonight, my go-to example is talk about the bitcoin guy. You know, that hippy millenial that sold everything to buy btc and decided to live in a treehouse to save money to keep buying.

He was on 60 minutes or some national news show as an oddity of the generation who were turning their backs on money and working. (He got wrekt by the way)

But now the National News stories are of course about Institutions spending Millions and legitimizing BTC by making it part of mainstream finance. (shadier than tobacco road)

This in itself gives this bull market a different feel already but tonight while watching the Dodger game on the MLB Network the above commercial for Coinbase aired.

To me that is a big deal. We all know the company went public and things are going to get crazy and probably ruined but their valuation alone will force bigger valuation for companies that do more transactions, charge less fees, and don't go out of service during swing markets.

But the commercial symbolizes a change in not only in BTC's place in today's world but a shift in popular culture.

The stars of the commercial is not the company but the products and these products used to be punchlines and unwelcome solicitations of advice nobody wanted about how it was crazy to be involved.

During the Superbowl, right after Robinhoods problems, they ran a commercial which mentioned buying crypto, and more recently SoFi is running one showing how you can do all your banking, pay your bills and buy crypto all one app.

So this is different for 2017, Crypto has grown up and isn't a hippie in a tree house anymore and somehow bought a nice suit and is hitting the cocaine happy hours in the financial district.

Good for you Crypto, you deserve it.
